Duct tape

I used half duct tape, half clear packing tape to hold the ends of the rope wrapped around the hula hoop on Ollie's hoopball. After putting these ends into the PVC pipe connecters, some of the tape sticks out where Ollie can see it. Of course, she is attracted to the tape like a little magnet. I've tried to remove it as much as I can, but I can't get all of it. Will either duct tape or clear packing tape harm her to chew on?

Well, Often Vets will use tape to hold a collar on. One I had, the instructions said to use Duct tape to distract the bird from chewing on the collar.. I have never used it. I have used the clear packing tape to hold Sydney's collar in place after surgery, and he DID get at the tape. Not large amounts, but it did not seem to hurt him.

can you cover it up with vet wrap?

hope someone else can add...........

Camille:

Its fine. I've been keeping this house and the cars running smoothly for years using it. I also used it on Mia's collar with no problem.

I never even thought about using vetrap! great idea Lisa! Its good to know that it won't hurt her though...now that she knows its there, the vetrap may not be much of a deterrant!

Hi all,

I'm new to this board, but wanted to post something to think about when using duct tape around parrots. I would be very cautious about using duct tape due to the nature of its strong sticky nature. IF, it became unwrapped and the bird got its foot or beak glued to it, I would expect terrible results - especially if it happened to smaller birds, but then again, freaky things always seem to happen to parrots don't they?? Have you ever tried to remove duct tape from your fingers?? Imagine how a bird would react if they were stuck to duct tape. I know its one of the things that are unlikely to happen, but it can and probably will. Sooo, I would suggest that if you are using duct tape, make sure it is really secure and tight...even that won't guarantee anything, and make sure its not something that your bird can unravel and/or get to.

Anyway, I just wanted to chime in here and mention this. I know it probably sounds paranoid...but, I've seen so many accidents with birds that were preventable and like I said before, the unusual and the freaky things always seem to happen to parrots...go figure??

I also use duct tape around my birds with no ill effect. I use it to secure latches on Izzy's cage since she is such a Houdini and would otherwise escape. I also put peanuts and other treats inside small cardboard boxes that I then close with duct tape and give to Cooper. He always starts out daintily removing the tape little by little, and then totally shreds the box into little bite-sized pieces....he is such a hoot!!

I use Redneck Chrome (Duct Tape) on my Nemos toys to hold him over till a replacement arrives and he usually tears it off and throws it to the ground, but has never tried to ingest it.

The amount of duct tape she can get to is not enough to get wrapped around any body parts. Something to keep in mind, though!
