A quick story......

Okay, I'm back from vacation so I am really busy here at work, but I thought I would share a quick story about Riley. I was having a yard sale on Saturday (made almost $300 by the way) and I came back into the house to get something and Riley could see me where I was standing, but I was busy doing something else and wasn't paying attention to her. All of a sudden I hear "Helllo!" (loud and clear too) and I look up and here she was in the top corner of her cage with her head tilted to the side peeking through the cage bars at me. How could I resist! Talk about making my heart melt! I had to go over and give her a few scritches and talk to her for a minute or two before I went back outside. The weather was great, but I didn't want to take her outside with me with all the strangers coming up to the house, because I have heard too many horror stories of people being robbed and their birds stolen, so I didn't want to give any strangers the knowledge of her presence. By the way this was really the first time that she said Hello as clearly and plainly as she did, she just turned 6 months old on Thursday. Okay, gotta get back to work.

just wait till she calls you "mommy" It will be a feeling you never had before, and will fondly remember forever.

its never a good idea to let others know you have birds in the house. Specially when you have a highly sought after species. Sadly, there are alot of stolen Greys. Always keep your guard up and caution flags out. Sad we have to live like this, but we do.
Because of the area I live in, I even had an alarm put on the house to keep them safe...
you did the right thing!

Yikes!

I had never heard about bird-napping...but that does make sense. They're so valuable to us...but expensive on the street, I guess.

Congrats on Riley's first clear word!!! You must be a very proud mamma!

Just wait, once they start talking, they don't stop!

I am with you on not letting people know you have a CAG in the house, especially if you live in a heavily populated area.

Oh, just wait until they say "I love you". Ugh! talk about melt your heart! Although the other day as we looked at each other she said "psycho"..although, in reality, I think it was supposed to be "is that good?" ( a saying I say when she eats dinner).

I agree with Lisa about being selective as to who knows you have a bird...a grey in particular. I have to wonder if the birdnappers actually look to the bird because of value $$ but especially one that can talk...and talk well.

BF is a cop and he wants to teach her to say things like, "drop your weapon! on the ground!!! NOW!", but I would rather, "Hey! I got a beak and I know how to use it!!"
