New ag for Christmas
I have a few questions, Last night I got a early Christmas gift this year it was a AG she is just beautiful, I was told she is a congo but not for sure pics later today maybe someone can tell me what she is.
Here is her story, she is 12 years old and has been outside in a cage for 8 years and speaking very little for what I am told. She was attacked by a hawk and almost starved to death. A friend of mine rescued her and asked me if I would want her as a Christmas gift, Of course I said yes. My question is do you think she will ever talk or feel safe again? She has not really stopped eating in five days all day long she eats she has put some weight which is good. She will eat out of my hand. She steps up on command and likes to be on my hand and last night she was whistling at me. I was wondering if her being outside for so many years it that would cause her not to talk. |

Even an AG can sometimes show little interest in repeating words. Only time will tell if her new surroundings will inspire her to speak more - it's certainly possible.
It's sounds like he/she is already very trusting if she will step up and eat from your hand. Considering all she's been through that is really quite remarkable. It sounds like you're doing a great job! |

Lucky you!Lucky bird! It's possible she'll talk and probable she'll trust.Since she likes to eat save some favorite foods for handfeeding to build trust.

thats really awesome if she arleady steps up and takes treats from you, and that shes eating and putting weight back on!! her being in your home, not outside to starve and be attacked by predators just might motivate her to be more vocal. with time and patience, im sure she will trust you and trust that she will be safe in her new home. just give her time to adjust

What a lucky bird! How horrid that she was left outside!! I would say she is going to come out of her shell very quickly if she is already eating out of your hand. I'm sure over time she will become a great friend, whether she talks or not.

What a beautiful baby. Congrats. Yes, she's a congo.
Were all here to help you along the way with the adjustments of your family member! Age wont matter when they learn to talk. my 22+ year old, learns new words every day. She probably doesnt talk now, because she had no one to pay attention to her. THANK YOU for taking her in and loving her. your life will NEVER be the same, and the rewards you will reap will be 10 fold!
