African Grey smell

In another post I mentioned scent of a grey. Does anyone know why / what causes that smell. Reason I ask is because today I opened up all the windows and walking past her cage I get a strong whaft of the grey smell. I'm not complaining, I like it. If I take her outside, the same result. So, is it exposure to UV lighting or fresh air or is it a scent that is emitted when frightened or scared?

I have no idea if anyone has a clue about this. And yes, I am crazy.

Hmm...I'm not sure what smell you're talking about. Can you describe it, maybe?

Mine too have that smell, both Gracie and Ruby, each a very distinct one. I can tell them apart by smell actually.

The Smell of Grey

Essence, aroma, fragrance, bouquet
These are all words to describe a smell
But all of them so very cliché
And don’t do the job so very well

But that’s not what I want to convey
To you, the whiff of life
It’s more than … what I cannot say
Filled with something rife

It is the unbound wildness
That fills the air
With a tangy mildness
Reminiscent of despair

Closed rooms and shuttered windows
On a long and wintry night
Within the loneliness it grows
The feeling of it being … right

The smell of Grey
And the wings that hold you close
On this very lonely day
When I’m down and feeling morose

For this I stay alive
During this very lonely day
On this I long to thrive
The wildness of the smell of Grey

I don't know how to describe it really. Kinda like a skunk has a musky smell, but this is more floral. ????

Bella smells nice...fruity, but I think it's from the stuff in her food.

Hmmm... My Dad's Amazon let's off an "aroma" when he's P'od and looking for blood but Grey's I have honestly never smelled anything from Max. Maybe like Bekfreak I have smelled something similar to what Max has eaten but nope never a Grey smell.

For me...

It's definitely Tuki's pellets.

It's a little "buttery." I also noticed it just last week -- when we were cuddling. (so I know it's not defensive or angry, cause he was happy as can be!)
With my chin, I like to gently move his feathers "up" on his neck and then smooth them down again. That's when I notice it. Kind of a buttery cookie smell to me.

Then while cleaning his pellet dish, I smelled it again.

Course, after a few days without a bath or shower, he smells TOTALLY different!
