Effects of FS Lighting...

I've read a great deal now about Full Spectrum Lighting and it's benefits for our birds. So I went ahead and bought a light for Tuki and got him all set up.

It's been three days and the thing I notice the most is that Tuki barely makes a peep now!
He seems to like the light. Moves up to it and relaxes with one foot up. But no little peeps, chirps or even loud squawks that I'm so used to.

Is this a common side effect?

This is a really indirect response ... but it is tied in.
I recently heard about the effects of a green LED light that the poultry industry is testing - the chickens are more content & they gain weight easier. So although there are many who say that Full Spec Ltg does no good, there are many who can see the benefits of certain wave lengths & can measure the results.

I'm glad you posted this b/c I'm ordering a light like the one you posted recently Kris. Ava is doing great but she still has a very random scream. Maybe this will help!

Go for it!

He definitely likes the light a lot...loves to just bask in it.
Even when I have him out of the cage for a long period of time, he doesn't make much noise since getting the light.
While I don't miss the squawking, I kind of miss his "practice talk."

He was talking softly last night for a while before bed.

I joined this board today because I wanted to know if this type of light would work for my birds. I have a B&G that is the sweetest, gentle love of my life and she is looking terrible. Her feathers are a mess, she is having a second hard molt and I feel that it could be because she never gets out in the sun anymore. She is Peaches, eight years old. I feel so bad. I have to work a lot of hours now (changes in my life) where before I could be home with her and take her out. Now, I leave early and get back about dusk. I have to do something.
I am alsom considering building an outdoor area for her. Room and neighbors are not a problem. My concern here is that she may become wild and that might be silly to consider, but we have such a special relationship that I do not want to take a chance. I need feed back if any one has the time to respond.
I have been reading posts and I am very impressed with the knowledge shown by the members of this board.
Thanks in advance.

I started using FS light almost 2 years ago for my CAG. He gets to go outdoors in a cage on our front porch most of the year but in the winter there are many days that he has to stay indoors and we noticed that every winter, he would pluck . He is a recovering plucker and though his body stayed fully feathered now , he still would not keep a tail. After we put the light in, no plucking. He has a tail . First time in 3-4 years he is fully feathered . We have been through one winter with the light and now any time he is indoors in his cage, the light is on.

As you might guess, I highly recommend FS lighting for your fid!

Hi Working Mom and Kimtoo! Welcome to BirdBoard!
I am so new to this Full Spectrum Lighting thing I couldn't possibly give advice.
You may want to also consider posting your B&G questions in the Macaw Experts section or even starting a new thread...
We have a couple of very educated people on here who advised me very well on the lighting!

Thanks for the welcome and advice! I will locate the Macaw section and check it out.
I have been reading about the F/S lighting all day. I ordered some standard size bulbs from Amazon. They had the best prices that I could find with a 30 day money back offer. I did find TrueSun.com and that web site had a lot of good info if anyone is interested.
Thanks again for the welcome radiogirl.

Bella gets Full Spectrum lighting daily for an hour or more. She loves it and I had it on her today after I came home from being out for the day, and she did the real fun TAG playing she does along with babble/practice talk.
