Nail Trimming

Has anyone here ever used a Cautery Nail Trimming Tool ? they are suppose to be quick and painless for trimming a birds nails by means of a heating element much like the tip of a soidering gun, and it will automatically Cauterize should you accidently get too much nail. I just want some input from people that have used these or know anything about them...Thanks people

no i havnt...but I dont think i would mess with that either.
The heating element might have teflon components in it and when heating it could emit fumes and kill your parrot. If the vet dont use it, I wouldnt recommend it either. Most times you dont really have to trim thier nails. with proper perches, they can be maintained without trimming.

Ok it states in the add that it is used and reconmended by vets but I was mainly concerned with it heating tissue around the nail and that being painful. I have a couple of Sandy Perches, as well as a Lava rocks for him to perch on while eating and drinking in addition to his Manzanita perches.

Well they run about 30.00 each, but I found a brand new one on ebay for 9.95 so I bought it, it uses a special heating filament not teflon so I will have my buddy that is an expert on birds to try it out (I dont do nails) he has alot of different parrots and told me he would do all my wing and nail trimmings since he knows what he is doing, plus Nemo will hate Him more than he does me...lol I will post as to his reaction, if it seems to bother him in the least I will pitch it out, but it is stated to be quick and painless.

I have used them. They are very difficult and scare the crap out of me. The end gets very hot and I always worry that the bird may flinch and I might burn him/her. I love the idea, but I don't feel comfortable using it. We had a demo from a vet tech from a very well known animal hospital in Pennsylvania. She made it look simple. Make sure you have a good hold on your fid before your friend uses it.

Well that sounds kind of scary, I think I'll sell it to my brother for what I got in it for his Lizard, I don't want to take any chances of burning or scaring my Nemo.
