Hi, a couple questions

Is a 8 yr old TAG to old to go home to a new owner ?

Would you purchase a 8yr old TAG ?

Still capable of learning new stuff ?

I emailed some people that have a 8yr old TAG for sell. So if they still have the little guy. I guess I will drive 270 miles round trip to pick him up.

Hi, I don't have a TAG, but most birds are capable of learning new things. It is the adjustment process and the process of learning that can be difficult. I think in order for people to better help you, you will need to provide some more details. Have you seen the TAG yet? Why are they selling the TAG? What is your experience with birds? All I can say is that TAGs are generally really great birds.

I got my TAG at 4 years of age. She had been lovingly raised and kept with the breeder who hatched her.

The breeder had become very ill and had to rehome her. I purchased her for $400. I think she would have given me the bird once she saw how interested Radar was in me and how delighted I was when I met her for the first time.

Still, I had purchased all of my others and felt it very fair. I still have my little Radar and still adore her. She was always fearless and engaging. I will say this, however. She is less friendly to strangers and more bonded to me every year. So, since I only have one TAG, I'm not sure it that's common with them. My Radar is one of 2 greys:Cleo is my CAG. They are part of my flock of 10 larger parrots, mostly macaws.

I love TAGS and think they make exceptional companion birds.

Loridan,

I agree with Dallas. What do you know about the bird (if anything)?
Have you met him yet?

Do you have any experience with African Greys? Either way, this board is a great way to learn and relearn (and sometimes unlearn).

To answer your questions:
No, I don't think 8 years old is too old to go to a new home. If his current ownersare selling him, there is a reason for it, and he is probably better off somewhere where he can get all of the care he needs.

Yes, I would adopt an 8 year old bird.

Yes, and 8 year old bird is still capable of learning new things.

I'm a CAG girl myself, but I've met a few TAGs and have had to force myself not to fall in love.

There are a lot of TAG people on this board. You'll learn tons. Best of luck, and welcome to the board.

For the record, and 8 year old bird is just now considered an adult in most larger species. This bird will likely live for 5 more decades. Its a youngster.

Jesse came to be with me when he was already 5 years old. He has adapted quite well to his 3rd home. I think TAGs are just grey't! Learn as much as you can about this bird before you commit. there my be some issues that he may have that you aren't prepared to deal with.

I spoke to the lady today. We are picking him up tomorrow.

The circumstances are horrible. The bird reminds them of their now departed son (3mths ago). Ive never owned a TAG/CAG before. The lady is willing to walk me through everything. I figure between her and here I should be fine. He is fully feathered, doesnt pluck. Already knows several things, the step up command and so on. Doesnt like to shower or be misted, prefers a bowl of water.

She is even making a list of the types of food he likes, treats and so on. She does have vet records on him as well. She takes him faithfully every two mths, I will keep that up as well.

I spoke with her for over and hour. Im convinced this TAG (Timmy) was made for my family :)

I got my Tag when she was 14. She adjusted quickly but is a one person bird. Yes, she still learns each and every day.

My Cag was 8 when I got him and loves everybody. They teach each other new words and sounds.

You wrote she takes him to the vet every 2 months. That seems a bit odd. Why is she taking the bird so frequently?
