Lima Beans ???

I have read in a few places that they are bad for parrots...anyone know why? I can find lists of what not to feed them...but no reason why.

Tuki is a BIG fan of frozen veggie mixes for dinner (corn, peas, carrots...) but lately, my store is stocking mixes with lima beans and I'm picking them out individually!

Anyone know what would happen if Tuki ate one?

My grandma said they have alot of salt in them. But if you got the uncooked ones then they wouldn't so I don't think that could be it. I never knew that they were bad so I'm glad I read this post cause I bought some mixed veggies at the store today & it has them in it. I guess I'll have to start seperating. Crystal

SPROUTED lima beans are bad because the plants can be harmful to parrots. The beans themselves are fine... they are one of my lory's favorites. I buy frozen beans with no preservatives or additives.... I also buy organics if I can find them.

Good! That means I don't have to pick the rest of them out. That was a pain in the butt. Crystal

Lima beans? My guys ALL love them and get them almost daily. I have been feeding them for years. I do watch the sodium content on the frozen varieties. Some are very high - believe it or not, more so in the organic frozen lima beans.

Lima Beans are not toxic if cooked well the problem with Lima Beans if not cooked properly is that they can rob the body of nutrients allowing the bird to eat like a pig and starve to death.

I try and pick the beans out Why take the chance.
