lately i've noticed ajax is head butting his bird buddy

he does this when:
1. he gets up in the morning
2. whne we come home from being out and he's excited to see us home
3. when we are putting him to bed

is this normal?
why does he do this?
it's very strange....

My U2 head butts me when he wants me to pay attention to him. Sounds like your fid is just not ready to give up the attention and wants the buddy to "pet" him when you've put him back into his cage or when you've just come home. My GCC does the same thing too. But that's just pure opinion, no fact there in that statement at all.

its a way to get you to pay attention to him (its not displaced aggression yet but you should keep an eye on his display so it doesn't get out of control)

Phoenix, our CAG, head butts the mirror when she is on my shoulder and I step in front of the mirror. I think she is trying to eliminate the competition. LOL

In other situations she seems to like the mirror. One of her favorite places in the house is on a perch in front of a full-length mirror in the spare bedroom (by herself). She talks to the other birdie in the mirror for hours on end and seems to be having a great time.

This is interesting and something I've never really thought about so I'm glad it was brought up. Ducky head butts himself in the mirror and then wants kisses from me.

Yes, it's normal. Sometimes they just like the feel of their beaks hitting other solid objects. One of my Greys, KoKo, loves to bang the front of the oven or the bottom of his cage. Sometimes he even likes to just bang the wall!
