Foods

Alright this might be some stupid questions to you all. So prepare yourself :)

The wife went to the grocery last night and purchased apples, bananas, grapes, baby carrots, celery ( celery not allot of protein , he likes it tho).

On frozen vegetables. What should I get ? Do I cook them up, un-thaw, serve frozen ?

Which ones should I get peas, green beans, corn ? What others ones would you suggest aswell ?

Of course he has his seed/fruit mixture food. The vet is suppose to tell us what kind of diet Timmy should be on. Thats not til towards the end of next week.

Bathing, I was told Timmy doesnt like to be misted or shower. He liked a bowl of water and that is it. How frequently should I do this, daily ? Cold or luke warm ?

So far this morning Timmy is hanging on my every word

Also last night while the wife/daughter were laying in bed Timmy blurts out "Hellooo". The daughter runs to get me. I told them I believe when he does that he wants some attention, they were watching tv :)

So of course after that Timmy received more attention then he probably wanted :)

One last thing suggestons on books ? Im going to order some today, so need to know which ones you all use the most.

Thanks for the help

I usually get a package of frozen standard frozen mixed veggies (corn, peas, carrots, lima beans). I take the portion I'm giving my bird and run hot water over the veggies for 30 seconds and they are ready to put in the food cup... Offer pellets along with the seed / fruit mix; pellets are much healthier as a staple of the diet, along with lots of veggies. As far as how often to give baths, I offer a bath to my bird at least twice a week, but sometimes he's not interested (they WILL let you know!).

I also use standard frozen mixed veggies and serve them cooked. There was a thread a few days ago about lima beans not being safe, so you may want to pick those out.

I would provide the bathing dish at least a few times a week. If he wants to bathe, let him! As for the warmth of the water, you'll just have to see which he prefers. Ollie likes it lukewarm to cool. But I know a lot of greys like it cold with ice floating in it!

I recommend For the Love of Greys by Bobbi Brinker. Great book!

I use frozen veggies as well, thawed out under hot water. Everything from carrots and peas and green beans and broccoli.

Tuki's Picky...

Yep...like everyone else, I make Tuki a mixed veggie dinner most nights. I cook/thaw them a little differently. I'll microwave a large bag on Sunday night and refrigerate to use for most of the week (I top off my dog's food with it too so he doesn't feel left out)

Tuki is a BIG fan of the corn, will eat a couple of carrots and green beans and one pea - if I'm lucky.

Tuki's a big Grape and Banana eater. The occasional orange slice if the mood strikes him. But that's it for fruit.

LOVES his Zupreem pellets and goes thru them like MAD!
But his FAVORITE: The Bird Paradise Ultimate Blend! (www.mybirdstore.com)

Bottom line...you'll have to try a bunch of things to find out what Timmy likes. Tuki is a bit picky and rejects a LOT of the things I've tried (birdy bread, eggs, pasta...)

I would point out that the thread re: lima beans now appears to indicate they are not bad for birds, unless sprouted. Take a look at the thread for details.

As for veggies, I have heard fresh is best. I try to feed my CAG fresh organic veggies as often as possible. However, frozen is adequate. I would try to get your grey used to as many different types of veggies as possible while he is young.

Ummmmm... the Stove is for decoration in my house, hate to admit that, but it's the sorry truth. I dust it when company is over..

Max gets everything fresh out of the fridge. No cooking involved - the organic food mart is literally around the corner. If I want to add sweet potato or anything else mashed I pop open a baby food jar of "Earthsbest" and mix in raw veggies, teaspoon of yogurt & dash of spirulina. Any other veggies, peppers, corn, squash are speared on a holder in the cage.

I buy everything every day or else none of us are eating - hubby included would starve (lol). Totally allergic to my kitchen unless it's the weekends.. than I do battle with my stove & try not to burn the house down.
