Hello everyone!
I am thrilled to announce that today I became the proud owner of a baby CAG He/she was hatched 08/15/06 @ 6:10 PM and I just sent the breeder a payment for him/her to be DNA sex tested so I should hopefully know sometime next week. He/she won't be able to come home until around Christmas time which gives me plenty of time to prepare my house to be perfect for him/her! Cages and playstands and toys, all while making payments to my breeder - oye these are going to be a really tight few months, but I know it will be worth it for a life long companion! He/she is being fledged and will be fully flighted in my home. Is there an age you should wait for them to begin harness training or is it alright to start introducing a weaned baby to the concept, letting him/her play with the harness etc. I don't want to rush things and scare her/him (obviously I wouldn't start anything until he/she was settled!). I've also been thinking about names even though I don't know the gender yet and probably will go with something gender specific (even though my female orange tabby is named Charlie)I really love the names Cecily and Marius (importance of being earnest/les miserables) but I want something easy to say for both me and the bird, if he/she decides that it would like to talk. So I'll probably try to think of some other names just in case. Here is a picture of my little baby, many many more to come, I promise! I am so excited I can hardly contain myself! |

Thank you! :D I was so suprised myself, having pined after severe macaws for so long, but I honestly couldn't be happier with this turn of events!
I'm still going to drool over your signature images (I miss my sun conure too) but soon enough I'll have that tiny lump of flesh and feathers to brag about endlessly ^^ |

I went to a bird show a few weeks ago & fell in love with a CAG. He was the sweetest little thing. He didn't want me to leave. Everytime I tried to walk away he would say, Where ya goin, come mere. It was the sweetest thing. If I hadn't just paid off my Severe Macaw & was going to pick him up that night, that CAG would of been mine. They are very beautiful babies. I love my Severe though & wouldn't trade him for nothing. I love my Sun Conure to. Can't wait to see more pic's of your wonderful little baby. I'm so happy for you. Crystal

Regarding the age to start harness training: I recently purchased an "Aviator" harness and the DVD that came with it suggested that it is easier to get younger birds (the younger, the better) used to a harness. I'd suggest getting one immediately (if possible) and start taking it with you when you go to visit your baby; perhaps the breeder could help get the bird acclimated?
