Zoeys first Doctors Appt

She did fairly well everything considered. She was checked beak to feet. I asked the doc a thousand questions, he happily answered. I brought up where I had purchased her they seemed to have clipped her wings. I stated that there was no way she was flighted. He agreed and complimented me on my knowledge, I complimented this board for my knowledge.

Doc is testing her stool and will call with the results. He was going to swab her mouth, however she was nervous. So I told him I would bring her back in a month to have that done. Plus she has to have her vaccine shot.

One last thing doc doesnt like broccoli in there diet. heh, my memory, something to high in something in it Also asked about lima beans, he said there fine to feed to her.

On diet, he wants her to be on veggies/zupreem no nuts of any kind, preferably.

Also went to a pet store No I didnt purchase another one I went to get her some more perches, foraging toys, another play area for her. Today I am going to pick up some hay to make her a foraging play top. (vet suggested)

Alright sorry for rambling on, I just could talk about her forever

Ahh wanted to add a story the doc shared with us. There is a couple who own a macaw. Anyway the macaw has a bad habit of plucking. She is actually bald except for her head. She seems to have bonded to the husband and plucks her feathers when the wife is in the room.

Also stated to never make anything routine for Zoey, always switch it up. Cause, if you have a routine with your baby and then you stop for health or other , it could lead to plucking.

I'm glad her visit went well. I'm confused about the broccoli though. And the no nuts. I thought they needed almonds because almonds have calcium and greys are prone to calcium deficiancies. hmm. I'm sure someone will post. I'm interested to see what they say. LOL! Dont worry about rambling on about her. I'm the same way with mine. I'm careful not to say anything at work anymore because everyone is sick of hearing about them. This is the only place that I can go, other than talking to my parents, where people understand.

I'm confused on the broccoli and the nuts. Never had my Avian Vet tell me that ever. Are you sure it wasn't spinach he was referring too. I know you can feed spinach but not too much as it interferes with calcium processing.

Or maybe with the nuts was he referring to Peanuts ie concern over fungus? I feed Max organic unshelled nuts in a small amount in with his veggies including broccoli. It looked so good with a little bit of shredded cheese that I confess I ate half of it too.

There's nothing wrong with the fids sharing with you. My fids share with me all the time whether I want the food or not. Bonita will take her foot & pull my mouth open then hurry up & spit whatever it is that she thinks I should taste, in my mouth. She loves to share her water with me. She gets mad if you say you don't want it. Crystal

Bonita really loves you.. Actually, I have on occasion "raided" Max's salads but we do seperate bowls.. Ok I confess, some salads look so darn good, hard boiled egg bits, bit of cheese, nuts, veggies that I do it more than occasionally...yummmmm..

Very true, some of the stuff does look sooooo good. Except for the stuff coming out of her mouth. She hasn't regergatated anything yet & fed it to me. Well, I don't think she has. I hope not anyway. Crystal

On the broccoli I will be able to tell why once the wife returns. The doc gave us paperwork with do's and dont's. Of course I am not in possession of such paperwork I have no idea where she puts that stuff.

On nuts what I can recall. Zupreem/veggies seem to be everything according to the doc. He just doesnt want me giving Zoey nuts. Atleast to the point that she decides that is her diet. She had millet I had purchased her, to hang in her bedroom (cage). I had to throw it out, that was a huge no no in his eyes. Also her nut/fruit treat was something else I had to get rid of.

BTW Zoey was gettin to where she just wanted that stuff. To get her back on zupreem, I crushed it up a bit, then I laid it out on top her play area for her to forage for, it worked. Plus I fed her her first veggies, she loved them.
