Bath Time?

Hey guys my CAG Jasmine is about 5 months old but I haven't given her a good bath yet. I tried spraying with a water bottle but she doesn't like it and just squawks. So how do I get her to bathe and how often she needs to take a bath? Thanks in advance!

Greys really should be bathed pretty frequently .... they have lots of feather dust and bathing helps keep that down and keeps the bird comfortable. Have you tried introducing her to the shower yet? My grey LOVES to take a shower with me or my husband. And. like your grey, he absolutely hates to be misted. You can buy a shower perch for her (it has suction cups that stick to the wall of the shower) and introduce her SLOWLY to the shower. Start out by letting her sit on the perch outside of the shower for a few days. Then gradually move the perch into the shower and keep her out of the water at first, then gradually move her perch closer to the water until she's able to get under the water if she wants. Make sure the perch is positioned so that she can get OUT of the water also by moving to another end of the perch.

If that doesn't work, I'm sure others will be along to offer their suggestions. All fids are different and what works for yours may not work for someone else's :^)

Good luck!!

Hey Saint -

My CAG Tuki is 6 months and we're in a similar situation. I did just what Kristi suggested...got a shower perch. Now, Tuki doesn't love it the way some fids here do...(wish he did!)
I let him stand there while I do my thing...he comes over to checck out the water and I deflect the water a bit to mist over him. (so he can't see I'm doing it )

The other advice I took was from Nancy (Outlaw) who recommended a bowl/dish of COLD water. Tuki - like a lot of CAGs - LOVES COLD WATER. SO, when he's playing on the kitchen floor - I leave a bowl of cold water on the floor with him and he eventually splashes in it a bit. But he's a little shy...

If I'm watching...he jumps out immediately! Too funny.

Thanks guys! I'll try the shower and a big dish too see which one she prefers. Jasmine is talking alot now. She also says a few clear words and the rest is just some sort of chatter that I can't understand. Once she gets older I think she'll be a very good talker!
