Vocalizations...

So, it's been the weirdest thing...

Since I've been home recovering from surgery the past 7 days, Tuki has become a whole new bird...at least in terms of his voice.
He's starting to practice talking and whistling non-stop!
He now has the "wolf whistle" down! If I do it, he will also do it right back.

And I noticed that when he's really working to try real words, he turns his back to me. It's so funny...like he doesn't want me to see/hear it until it's just right!

So cute! Ava defintely practices new words. Sometimes I hear her in her room mumbling to herself, but she stops when I walk in! Once she feels ready to "present" her new word, she'll only say it in front of me, not my husband. I think she's shy b/c he's a boy!
I'm glad to hear you're recovering well from your surgery!!!

Best of luck on your recovery.....

Chances are, Tuki's been practicing..... you just didn't notice because you weren't around. They are funny when they practice, and actually get the words out. Lately, Tristan has been mimicing Spencer on a couple of phrases. It's too cute. Sometimes I can't tell who's speaking. But I have learned that Tristan speaks louder than Spencer.

Keep talking to Tuki... He'll really surprise you one day!!

Quincy the CAG is a closet talker here. She wont say anything if you're standing there in front of her, but if you're across the room, she will talk up a storm. She sings happy birthday, does a drunken sailor song, counts to 8, I'm a spooky bird, has telephone coversations for hours on end. She also does all kinds of noises and beeps. She amazes us with the new things she says every now and again. One night we were watching television and she made an owl hooting sound and then said, "sounds like an owl to me". She's so funny. She was a permanent surrender. Her ex owner was a software engineer and designed a program to teach her to talk. He also kept her in his office and she picked up his telephone conversations. She's such a great bird.

I really hope you are feeling better by now. Take care.

Feeling better - thanks all!

They are all so cute! I told Lisa B. on the phone the other day that one day, as I sat next to his cage, Tuki had this loooooog conversation with me (I barely got a word in) and he just went on and on and on.
I just kept saying, uh huh, oh really? and Wow! What else happened?

Gonna try to get it on video next...

My grey will practice new words right in front of me. He will sit on his perch, look me in the eyes and mumble non-stop. Sometimes I can figure him out, but most of the time I can't. Never a dull moment when ya got a grey!
