Question difference between TAG & CAG

hello everyone..

sometime in the future... although probly not for another year or 2.. i plan to get an african grey..

i really dont know too much about them, besides what i have learned on this forum..

i am wondering.. what are the differences between a CAG and a TAG??

im sorry if this seems like a dumb question (as it probly will to most) but i dont know anything about them and i wanna do my research before i even think about making any kind of decision in the future...

if you go to the Bird Board Work Area
I did a species profile for both TAG's and CAG's

Talking CAG and TAG

Hello!

Well the main differences in a CAG and a TAG are size, color, and price.
Congo's have a bright red tail and have black beaks. The Timneh's have a marroon tail and the upper mandible of their beaks are much lighter in color and a slightly pinkish tint (white). They are also much darker in color than Congo's. Timneh's are also smaller in size. Congo's are slightly more pricey due to their popularity.

Congo's - usually range from $900 - 1300
Timneh's - usually range from $700 - 900
(it just all depends on if you buy from a breeder or a petstore. And location is a big facter as well)

Some people say, as do I, the Timnehs are slightly more laid back and less prone to feather picking and other neurotic behavior.

Both are excellent mimics and can imitate the human voice as well as any bird species can. They both also have the intelligence of a 5 year old. They also can have the emotions of a 2 year old child.

African Greys live 50 to 70 years. They will bond to you for life.

I think Don can help with this one as he lives with both. My Timneh is really out going and not much really scares her. I can give her a new toy and she'll go right for it.

My CAG is very laid back and not scared of much either. I think it has a lot to do with how they are raised, especially in their first year of life. Ollie has been exposed to a wide variety of situations/experiences, and is extremely adaptable and calm.

But yes, as a general rule, TAGs seem to be more laid back than CAGs. Ollie happens to be a special exception!

Bella's got a bad habbit too...she now passes gas. I had her with me in the store, and I was going to look into a swing for her. As I passed over from where the main part of the store is where the sandy pearches and all are...she toots.

The little gal sticks her tongue out so I'd thought maaaybe she'd learn to make the raspberry sound along with it. I just got the sound.
