I found another TAG!

So I've been calling around to various breeders all morning. I found a 3 week old TAG in Indianapolis for $750. Wow that's a lot cheaper then where I've looked before! Anyway, the TAG will be ready to go May-June. I'm thinking i'm going to take my $$ out of the store I have it in now and go put it on the new one i just found. What do you guys think?

The cons: I wouldn't get to see the baby as often. and a 3 hour drive to see him/her.

The pros: This lady was REALLY nice and caring. I would be getting my bird 2-3 months sooner then my local petstore. The bird is $300 cheaper then my local petstore.

What a crazy journey you are on

I had some trouble before I could get my CAG so I know how heartbreaking it is to think you have a bird and it turns out you dont -snug-

You are on a waiting list at the store, correct?

Did you ask all the questions that are important to you from this lady - how she fledges, weans, socializes the babies? Could you get yourself out there to see her setup, and where she keeps the birds and meet the babies?

It is important not to jump on the first availible bird you see. When my first CAG fell through, I visted tons of different "stores" and "breeders" and for a while I thought that I just wouldn't -find- the perfect situation and ought to just settle for one (which would have been such a HUGE mistake!!!!) but am SO glad that I waited to meet little Schroeder who came is MUCH better quality in terms of temperment, socaizliation, and probably health as well!

Jeez!! No kidding this has been a crazy journey! I second that thought!

The only thing I have to add here is, references. Have her give you some references. If she's a good breeder she should have a ton of clients that LOVE her and would love to talk to you about the great experience they had dealing with her. Ask her tons of questions, even if you think they may be offensive. I think if all checks out I'd go with her. Pet stores are just iffy to me. So many of them are more concerned with their bottom line then with the health and socialization of the animal. Just my opinion. Good luck! I'll keep my fingers and toes crossed!

YAY!! This sounds very promising! Can you go visit? If you visit and all looks well I would say go for it!! :) It really would be cool to know it from a baby on and watch it grow!

GOOD NEWS! I put a deposit down on a baby TAG! But I only did this because I liked everything about this breeder in everyway! She's the nicest lady ever! She has 25 years of experiance. My bf and I felt right at home at her house. We traveled 3 hours through an ICE storm to get there today. Wow was it worth it. I'm so happy that we went. She said we could visit anytime we wanted and she really acted like she cared a lot for ALL of the birds she had.

Anyway, I'm so excited I can't stand it! My baby will be ready to go home around the end of May. He/she was hatched on Superbowl Sunday! How awesome! I took some pics while we were there. Even though he doesn't have any feathers yet, he's a cutie! :)

Oh my goodness! They are so cute!! A huge smile came across my face reading your post!! I am so excited for you! I know how much you want one!! This is so great- you will get to watch him grow up from a little naked chickie!! And it is so great that you have a good breeder, it really makes the experience that much more special, because you know they are being well taken care of! May will come quickly! And now you have lots of time to buy extra toys and stuff- just fill up a box full! And I have to say that your BF sounds great- driving through an ice storm to get you there to meet your baby! Any name ideas? Are you going to do a DNA sex test? I am SO happy for you! Congrats on the new cutie!

Featherduster: I've looked at your pics before and just LOVE them! Thanks for the link. I will be looking at them often! :)

I'm going to have my little guy sexed when I take him to his first vet visit. (not til he/she is weaned.) Also, I believe I'm going to have him/her micro chipped. How does everyone feel about that? The breeder felt strongly about it. She said for some awful reason my bird get lost and, whom ever finds him, if they wanted they could cut off a foot band. Then I really would have no proff of the bird being mine. How exactly do they do this micro chip business? Is is a surgical thing? Will it hurt my baby? Gosh I can tell already, I'm going to be a worry wart! lol

oh yeah. . . the names: boy- Ricco girl- Gracie Lou What do you guys think of my names?
