I agree. I would be sad if my bird cussed all the time, who would want to hear nothing but decades of foul language?

If the bird cussed because the guy cussed at it and was mean to it (I've seen some of those on youtube as well, where the bird will cuss and belittle itself and it doesn't look happy and healthy like this one) would be one thing but a potty mouth parrot isn't going to be unhappy - heck birds like words that are said with excitement and explicatives sure are alot of the time :)

I agree! But remember....this bird doesn't know what she's saying is bad.....all she is doing is mimicing the guy....

I had a TAG, when she would say her certain phrase, I'd break out laughing....so after a while.....she'd say her phrase and break out in laughter herself.....and besides she'd get a treat whenever she said it, so I was really the one at fault for her potty mouth....

I can't reveal here what her phrase was, as this is a family board...but if you wanna know, PM me......

You know I adopted a couple of birds with potty mouth and it's really not funny. My husband thinks it's funny too and encourages it but I try to correct them.

A lot of people really don't mean to teach these words to their birds, I think. I am almost sure most people just say these things, the bird picks them up and the owner just thinks it's funny. I had to close the doors so mine wouldn't hear. Echo picks up words so fast, and we can't have a cussing parrot in this house!

They are like your kids though, and it justgoes to show how responsible some parronts are. I would never swear in front of my parrots, never. I would never swear in front of a child either. However, some parents do, and don't realize that their kids will repeat it. Kids don't really know better; they hear their parents saying it, so they assume its an ok word. Parrots hear it, and don't know any better. Sad though...

poor bird doesn't know its bad language. he says it, get some reaction (the chuckles) that only reinforces the use, WE know about reinforcing behaviors riiight? Dumb-arse didn't think it through, bet soon he'll get tired of the bird saying that stuff and dump it....

I met a sweet much older lady with a Timneh Grey. "Starsky" cussed like a sailor...and when I say that I mean it. I was just floored. He used full sentences to do it.

I was a bit embarrassed when I heard him & she apologized. Here in Florida many of the housing developments are zero lot lines (meaning the next house is so close you can see in their window next door).

She told me that her next door neighbors (husband & wife) don't seem to like each other very much and screamed at each other (cursing & calling each other names) day & night & Starsky could hear them. He repeated exactly what they said verbatim.

Grey are so smart and unfortunately, it only takes 1 time to hear something & they can say it if they want to.

Different people have different degrees of tolerance for swearing. I'm no angel, but I never swear AT my parrots. I do swear about other things though on occasion. It wouldn't offend me if my parrots swore and I don't have human kids. As long as the bird is well cared for, who cares if it swears.

Samm, I remember Zoe...............

I've had my 3 yr old CAG almost 2 weeks now, and one of the first things I noticed about her was that inspite of her huge vocabulary, she speaks not one cuss word...........I'm very happy about that, because you just never know who might come for a visit, and I really don't like to be embarrased.
