It's very funny but if something would happen to the owners someone else may not want to take Ruby because of her language.

I have to admit, my CAG "Ruby" does curse. It is our fault....we are not real trashy but the occational "Oh sh*t! and D*mn it" does come out. I think it's because more emphisis is put on these words than other that attracts her so quickly to the profanity. Of course our shock and covered laughter only encourages her further! Along with the total amusement of anyone who comes to visit and hears her talk. The biggest explotion of delight and exclaimation always comes after she utters a bad word. She IS smart enough and a show boat enough to exploit that to it's full potential!
Ruby is a delightful, precious (if not a bit precosious!) character and seems to appeal to even people that do not own birds....even with her bad language. So I say, much like any creature God has given the ability to speak and think. We must accept our parrots with the vocabulary of todays society, keep a sence of humor and remember they are like that oh so honest and embarrassing 3 year old that blurts out everything they hear at the worst possible time!!! Yeh, if you want to know what's really going on at any of our houses, just come ask our parrots!!! |

I have a sailor mouth neighbor... I've caught her a few times when over, saying over and over again, bad words to the parrot... I've asked her to stop. She obviously thinks its very funny. I don't.
Luckily though he doesn't seem to repeat words unless i say them... but who knows. I'm only thinking in the future here, but what if this bird needs to be rehomed. and noone wants it because it says all those words... wouldn't that be a sad outcome? it is a funny video, but for me i wouldn't be teaching my fids those words on purpose.. |

Ya know, I don't think it's such a big deal, but if I want to keep my birds, they'd had better never cuss!

I would take the CAG "Ruby" on the x-rated video if it became homeless. Inspite of it's VERY appauling language, this grey is very intelligent (I viewed the videos) personable and has good cognative ability. If you can look past the language issue you'll notice how well Ruby responds to every vebal question and command from his less than charming person. Ruby is very well socialized as well from what it appears. I think both bird and owner would grieve without the other. But I do not think the bird is unadoptable should something happen to her person, she is far to intelligent and a true bird lover would see her for that.

i talked to the guy who posts the videos - he's a very responsible parrot owner (as you can see when looking at ruby), and he's made arrangements in case something happens to him

Well, here's my opinion.... taking pleasure in teaching a bird to swear is like taking pleasure teaching your 2 year old human child to swear. Hey, maybe giving a little kid a beer and getting him drunk on New Years Eve would be a real hoot? It's adolescent.
So many words in the English language....why encourage the X rated stuff? The bird doesn't know the words are not necessarily socially acceptable and they can't use the discretion to know when to say it and when not to say it. |

I don't think there's anything wrong with it as long as the bird is happy and healthy. My budgie swears occasionally and we think it's funny - and it is our fault - one of our cats' nickname is b!tchy B and he refers to that cat as just that. He loves that cat and talks to her all the time. He also picked up B!otch from my husband playing video games. We never intentionally set out to teach him these words, and it's not hurting anyone, so we laugh and enjoy his colorful speech
(By the way you can listen to Jerry's curse words in his audio album on this site, there are files where he refers to the cat and also curses in general)
