Im so excited ... and question

I'm a new mommy to an......... egg hehe I put a deposit on one yesterday. My little one should hatch in the beginning of April, and be ready to go home early August. *sigh* Im so excited, but now Im also getting reeeally nervous. I believe I'll be a great birdie mama, I just hope I really am. The whole family is really excited and anxious.
I remember reading somewhere that males will always make better pets..something to do with females reaching sexual maturaty and how they are after that, as well as having a lot of problems with them laying eggs... I never really cared with the sex of what my baby will be, but now im kinda questioning it. I do plan on getting the bird DNA sexed thru the breeder, but whatever my 'egg' turns out to be I know I will be happy either way... but any insight on that theory?

Personally, don't put any stock in the generics. I have a female of one of the moodiest species, and she's a total cuddle bug. You just have to be sure to read their body language during puberty, and give him/her loving when they want it, and stay away when they're in attack mode. They don't understand what's happening to them, so they get pretty feisty. Just imagine a teenaged human. Same thing, smaller body and a language barrier!

Congrats on the new baby-to-be. You'll love him/her.

I have a 3 males and they are very different. Olly is my love bug. Jack is a moody thing and My precious Rudy is a very protective over his MAMA. So there are 3 males different characters. So I guess it is how you bring them up. Just like a human child.

I dont have an African Grey, but I also heard/read the same thing about caiques...that males are more loving, less mean than femals. So I bought a baby male. Well, now that he has bitten badly several times since reaching puberty, I have now heard that the OPPOSITE is true...males are worse than females in regard to pet behavior. I throw most of the theories as to sex out the window and say it depends on the individual bird and the way it is raised/cared for. Despite the bites, I would not trade my little caique for any bird. He's still my sweetheart.
