Need Help with new CAG

Well I brought my new CAG, Meeka, home this past week end, but last night when it was time for everyone to go to bed, they all scrambled to the highest perch in their cages just like always, but Meeka said, "Nite, nite", and went immediatly to the floor of her cage.????????

Is this the norm? She's my very first CAG. And the people I got her from knew even less about African Greys than I do!

Should I make a bed for her on the floor of her cage? Maybe a soft towel or blanket? Help!

How old is she? Scarlett did that her first few nights home, slept on the floor in the corner of her cage. I had to put a perch up high and then place her on it. She got the hang of it and slept there after a few nights.

Our Grey has weird sleeping habits too.
Popeye (our Timneh) sleeps kind of lopsided. Almost upside down, with his head toward the floor and his tail in the air.

I was told Meeka is around 3 yrs old, but I kinda got the feeling they were'nt being 100% honest with me, so I really don't know. Also, they had been keeping her in a cage that I felt was much too small.

I now have her in a cage that's about 4 times what she's used to, and she just loves it! And she loves me! lol

I'm sooo happy with her, and I want to make sure I give her the best life possible, because she hasn't had it up till now. So I'm really gonna need some help from all of you, and will appreciate anything you can tell me.

Thanks everyone!

She is probably still adjusting to her new cage them. Give her some more time and let her get settled. I am glad you two have hit it off so well, I hope your relationship continues to get better and better!

Ok, well I've only had her for a few days now, and she does seem happy, so I'll just keep an eye on her & try not to worry so much.

Thanks everyone!

You've only had your new friend for a couple of days give h/s time.I am owned by 3AFG and they have a way about them. They don't like sudden change too fast.I couldn't change their cage or anything until they had adjusted to their new surroundings.I adopted them from 3 different places. The
2 timnehs are the best of friends and now share a cage together. The congo stays on top of their cage and is attached to one of the timneh's named Chrissy.I wish you the best of luck with your new FID.BTW do you have other birds and did you quarantine your new FID?

It could be that she is getting used to the new cage. Could be in the old one, she would slip and fall at night because of improper perch diameter or balance issues.
As long as she seems healthy in other aspects, I wouldnt worry to much. I would however let the vet know, when you are in for a visit.

Does she by chance have clipped wings, or, I should say, a clipped wing? Like Lisa said...could be a ballance thing.
