African Parrot Conference
I just added a post in another thread about an African Parrot Conference being held in Long Island, NY, this Saturday, April 21. If you are interested, here's a link to the post with more information: http://www.birdboard.com/forum/bird-...tml#post356545

I went and it was very good overall. There were probably 200-250 attendees. There were presentations on Lovebirds, trick training by a Red-Bellied Parrot, birds and other animals in Africa, fear and phobic responses, breeding African Greys, species-specific health issues, and behavior assessment and developing an intervention plan.
I left the conference with a lot of confirmation to my knowledge and my methods of interacting and caring for my birds. I gained some new ideas to implement for keeping my birds even healthier and better socialized. It was very worthwhile and beneficial for me. |

"is Layne David Dicker good or what?!?!?!?!?!?" -- I had no idea who he was or that he is a "known" presenter on the bird show/conference/expo circuit. He's a great photographer, great story teller and great comic personality to give a presentation. He shared his experiences and his sincere love for his birds and nature in general in a very entertaining way. I’m glad I had the chance to hear him.
"Dr Hess was also there, correct?" -- Yes, Dr. Hess gave the presentation on assessment surveys and developing an intervention plan. She was good, but I wish she had spoken earlier in the day. She was the last presentation before the closing questions and answer panel. Having sat through presentations for six hours, her topic was very technical and precise and would have been better absorbed earlier in the day when we all had fresher minds. That was my opinion, but that may be because I was a teacher and her plan was nearly identical, using the same terminology, as we began using with student behavior issues about five years ago. You missed a very good day. |

My husband and I really wanted to go, but my nephew was being baptised up in MA. I am hoping I can pick up a DVD copy of it. I know they have one of the Cockatoo Conference. I will have to check at next months meeting. Wish I could have gone and met up with some of you.

Layne Dicker is a fantastic speaker. He has been out of the circut for over 10 years. Not sure what Long Island did to get him there. However, I was in the middle of a move, and have been sick, so I was unable to attend. I too would buy the video if it becomes available.
Dr Hess is one of my vets. A very knowledgeable one at that!
