Sitting on Food Bowl Quesion

I have 2 Cags, both a little over 4 years old, one male and one female. They are housed in seperate cages: however, my female won't sit on her perch lately. She will only sit on her food bowl and poop in it. I move the food bowl she goes with the bowl. Could she be like wanting to nest and lay an egg?

Take a good look at her vent area it tends to get puffy when they have an egg on the way. My Parrotlet laid her first egg last year & she tended to stay on the bottom of the cage until she moved it out (first egg was a toughie). Sometimes she would scratch around in her food bowl & bring pieces of old toy parts in there for a nest.

It's definitely that time of year as my little Parrotlet Hen has laid two since last week. I do everything to discourage it but sometimes nature finds a way. Make sure to give extra calcium so her body doesn't get depleted from egg laying.

Here's a link which if you scroll down you can see a CAG female with a Puffy Vent area:

Sitting on Food Bowl

Thanks for the feedback and the link. Yes, I think that's what she is trying to do is lay an egg. Let's hope all goes well, I'd hate to have an eggbound babygirl here.

I have two males that like to poop in their food bowls, not sure why, maybe the bowl gives them the feeling of being on a nest??
