Meeka update

Hi gang!
Well it's been a month and a half since I brought my 3 yr old, adopted CAG Meeka, home and things just get better every day.
She talks soooooooo much! Always something new! Her vocabulary is amazing! I feel so lucky to have her.
There is one VERY BIG PROBLEM, tho. And I really need help with this...........
My adorable Meeka is VERY DESTRUCTIVE!!
I let her roam freely. As I do all my fids, but Meeka tears up everything in site & yesterday she even put a hole in my new recliner! This morning she went after the sofa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HELP!!!!!!!!!!! She's been locked away most of her life and I simply WILL NOT let that happen to her again. Can someone tell me what to do? I've tried distracting her with things that she's allowed to tear up, but so far that's not working..........She's so sweet & I've made so much progress with her........I don't want to mess up now.
Thanks for any help you all can give me.
Ginger

Have you've tried the Bitter Apple spray? It might help. Good luck!

Well, she is only doing what is normal for a bird. In their world, nothing is off limits. Thats what happens when we introduce them to our habitat.
I suggest if she is that destructive it is for her safety to have a cage to be in when unsupervised. Imagine what can happen should she get ahold of an extention cord or wire? If she is in a large cage, she wont mind her own domain with acceptable toys for her to chew.
good luck!

I could not have said it better then Lisa B.

If you can not supervise her then keep her in a cage with lots of foot toys, wood, etc... to chew on.

Best of luck to you.

Actually, she's always supervised. I just didn't realize this was "Normal" since none of my other fids have ever done this.
She is my first Grey, as well as my first adoptee and we've had many issues to work thru. So I thought this was just one more.
Thanks for your help.

You're lucky if your other birds aren't chewing things all around their environment when they're out and exploring. I know my Senegal wants to explore and chew everything he encounters (luckily, not me most of the time). I'm lucky that I can put him on his play gym, hand him a small piece of wood and he'll be very content turning it into a pile of wood chips for me to clean up. I'd pity what my home would look like if I didn't constantly give him toys to destroy and carefully supervise him (he's never out of arm reach) when he's exploring.
Continued good luck with Meeka.

I'm sure glad I asked this question in here. I was worried that I was doing something wrong. And I just want to make sure I give her the good life that she deserves now.
I'm home all the time, so my fids get plenty of attention. They are all so much fun! But I truly don't know what I'd do without the help of all of you here on the BB.
Thanks again!
Ginger
