Getting a 5 yo grey tonight,,,,

Hello i just wanted to let everyone know I am finally getting me a grey tonight ....We the owner and I are meeting in different states to provide transportation so as not to ship...I was told the bird is a little territoral over his cage...But will step up from the floor or offf the cage with a dowel...I am so excited about this and I am also getting his cage with him which I wasnt barganing for as I had told her I only have enough cash to pay the adoption fee,,,however I am assuming she also loves him and decided to send his cage so that he will have something familiar...Anyway I know you can tell the excitement in my post ,,,,I am probally going to have lots of questions in the near future so any help will be great,,,,I currently have a U2 that I am sure might experience some jealousy but after the proper quarintine which is 60 days right??? Then I hope they will be great friends...Can anyone tell me about what age greys come into hormonal stages??? I was told hes a shy talker but does talk alot...This is really not a concern but it nice to know up front that he talks...I had just two nights ago posted that I was wanting to get a grey and now Im getting one,,,,GoD is good...Anyway anyone with any info on quarintine times or ways to avoid jealousy in these birds is very welcome to send me their advise...Thanks Magoo;s mom

Congratulations - Greys are wonderful

Congratulations! Greys are really wonderful birds. Is it a congo or a timneh?
I have 3 congos - 1 rescue, 1 that needed a new home and one that I've had since she was to little to have feathers. Greys can reproduce when they are around three, but it is my experience that they don't really show hormonal changes much. I have a flock which also includes mollucans and a amazon and they go thru stages definately. I normally quarentine 30 days and of coarse start the process with a vet check. Anyway once again congrats and I'm sure you will be happy and have a wonderful new friend.

Thumbs up

WOW! I just read your post on another site about wanting a grey. That was fast! It's good that you are understanding of his situation...it will probably take some time for him to feel "at home". But you sound like you have plenty of patience - good for you! I have a U2 as well as an amazon and two greys. Everyone gets along quite well - (my amazon is kind of bossy) - but I have to say I think that my U2 is the hardest to get along with - mostly cause she's such a nut - my greys especially don't want anything to do with her - they're not afraid - just avoid her. I'll be interested to hear how your two react to each other. And I agree - 30 days is about right - and of course a vet check!
-Can't wait to hear about the arrival! :eusa_clap

I'm always happy when I hear that someone's bringing home a new (or older) baby. Many congrats to you. I wish you all the luck in the world.

Good luck with the 2 of your birds getting along. But don't be disappointed if they don't. Just like 2 humans, nothing is guaranteed.

Good luck with everything, and make sure to post pics!!!
