Talking My first grey

Well today was the day I went to the airport and became proudly owned by a CAG. He is the most interesting bird I have had the pleasure of being around. He is 9 months old and seems to be settling in ok. He won't let me put him in his cage, so he's been hanging on the couch all afternoon. Unfortunately for the poor guy, his parents had nibbled the tips of his toes when he was in the nest, so he has all his toes but only one toe that has a nail. But he seems to manage just fine. I will take some pics and post them after he feels more settled.

joebird, you may want to have a little conversation with babypiggy about her Ajax. He is missing some toes and most of his nails, and maybe she can tell you what to expect.

Congrats on your new guy. Get us some pictures and stories soon!!!

Congrats! Now dont you go spoiling him or you will wish you hadnt! Put him in that cage and make him stay sometimes,LOL. He will need to learn to spend time on his own for all Those times you cannot play with him. The only problem he will have with his toenails is grip. Make sure all his perches have a not-too-smooth surface and a diameter that permits a decent wrap around. The good part is he wont scratch the heck out of you!:)
Got a name picked out yet???? Boy?? Girl??

I couldn't get him to go into the cage all day. When he decided to walk out of the carrier he wanted to just sit on the couch and have his neck scratched. So to try to reduce any stress I let him and sat with him almost all day. He finally went to the cage and climbed on top, so that was another waiting game to try and coax him down. He didn't want to get on my hand, so I was trying to not stress him out and kept coaxing him with grapes to go where I wanted. I finally got him to just walk into the cage, but I am sure it will be another battle today when he comes out. But thats the fun of a grey, right? Well I am off to the store to get some of those perches that are not made of wood, and seem to be crooked and bumpy. Hopefully that will help him with his perching. Right now he keeps perching on the edge of his water bowl.

Joe

Try and get some smaller perches for the cage. Jack did that then we realized his toe was broken and he was falling. We put small sized perches in his cage and he did much better. He also got off the water bowl.
