Unhappy Uncle Bill's Selling Mean Grey for 1600

Here in Indiana. Yup. I can't believe it. It's 2 years old, and very anti-social. My husband says they haven't been able to sell it and moved it to a different store (as he recalls it elsewhere). I asked for the price, and the lady said 1600 dollars. I asked if that included the cage, and all its supplies, and she said the cage is 500.

We have paid 1000 for our unweaned baby, being taken care of at the bird shop until weaned. That includes finding out its gender, and they do a great job at taking care of their birds.

I just can't comprehend why this bird is 1600. I tried petting it, and it put its head down and immediately it bit me. I remained calm but I sensed its frustration. I left it alone and I looked back and he had turned his back away from people. So sad.

If it was 500 I would buy it, try to retrain it, but 1600 is outrageous. I'm just thinking it will be there for a very long time. Poor bird. So smart, so loving, and being thrown in a stupid pet store that doesn't even know how to care for its animals. I (yes, ME) had to tell a guy HOW TO get a green cheek out of the cage. I told him to towel it because perching wasn't working (the guy looked more like he was poking at it), and then offered to help and not taken seriously. It was pretty sad.

===End rant===

See my similar rant here:

Profit-driven rehomes

I hate people who can't put the welfare of the bird ahead of money. And WHO is going to pay $1600 for a 2-year-old bird that needs retraining when you can get a baby as low as $750 from a breeder?

Ahh I know what you mean! I went to Petland by my moms house last weekend! And i about died when I saw a grey that they were selling there for $1900..the poor bird has plucked most of his back, has no feathers on his wings..and just the down in his front! They have him in there with a galah cockatoo (they had cut all of his feathers from the first flight feather all the way to like 2 back ones(closest to the body)..a B&G Macaw whose 4 months old was out on a t-stand where little girls were throwing seeds at it with two employees standing there paying more attention to the older couple who was buying a puppy,(i stepped in because the macaw was not happy..*he was a sweet heart*) I picked him up and his nails were extremly long..i asked the lady why and she's like he's having trouble perching...DUH! maybe if you didnt cut of 3/4 of his tail so he would fit in the cage he could balance! Grrr and they only had one toy..and a rope swing in the cage!
Ive been mad about this since saturday...had to let it out...i took a picture of the grey..he was a nice bird i finally got him off the swing and he came to the door and was talking to me...

I hate stores that are just out for the profit.

I live in eastern Canada, and the pet stores around me sell their grey's for $3000...You can't even buy an untamed normal cockatiel for less that $150, and I've seen mean green quakers for $700. I've yet to find a breeder in Canada that sells grey babies for less than $1200, $1500-$1600 seems to be the average.

Oh, look at his little fluffy bat and butt!! I want to hug him.

honestly, if I had the money to take in every poor guy I saw, I would. My fiance is going to have to learn really quick how to fence me in :)

If I could keep another grey I would spend even $1600 only to help that poor bird... but I can't!

I feel the same way. If financially I could I would buy lots of birds and find them good homes or keep them. Right now I am looking at a Pionus. I will find out on Friday if I can pick him up.
