My babies are fighting??? Timneh & Congo Aggression

I have two African Greys, a Timneh that is 8 1/2 years old and a Congo that is 7 1/2 years old. They have been free flight all of their lives and each has their own "house" to sleep in at night.

A few days ago the Timneh jumped on the Congo - talons out and beak biting. Now the Congo is returning the favor. They have never been aggressive towards each other before and I don't know what's happening.

I have put each on in their respective "houses" since they cannot be trusted together. Does anyone have a clue what is happening here?

Yes that what I am thinking too. Spring is mating season. Are they male and female?

Thank you for your replies. I have not had a DNA test done on the babies, but I do believe the Congo (Romanoff) is male and the Timneh (Aphrodite) is female. This may be breeding season (I haven't really paid attention) but they have never behaved like this before.

They knew exactly what they had done. After we put them both in the "houses" I heard Aphrodite say "Sorry, Sorry" I look around the corner and she hung her head down when she saw me.

They are better today and we have given them some time out of their houses, but not like we normally do.

They are only a year apart and this could be a maturity thing. I don't have any experience with greys this age. I have had each of them since they were about 8 or nine weeks old and they have always gotten along.

Hi Julie....

I can say most greys dont get along as they mature. Mine cant be left alone, or unsupervised. My two males wanna kill eachother. alot of my friends have the same issue.

Lisa - How much room do your grey's have? My babies have a room that is 12' x 16'. They have been getting better, but now it seems that this is happening the first day after my husband comes home from being out of town for a week or two.
