Weaning also depends on the situation at the aviary. When I have just one or two babies it takes a ton longer for them to wean because they have no birds to "teach" them what is "to eat". If there are young but already almost weaned babies to put them in with they wean WAYYYY faster because they see and try the foods they older babies are eating thus learning how to eat like a big birdie. This last clutch of Parrotlets I put the flight cage I wean them in right up against my gentle grass keets cage.I feed the grass keets in a flat tray on the floor due to there foraging nature. Watching the grass keets made this last clutch wean super fast and they are totally refusing formula from a syringe and will only take a few bites from a spoon at barley six weeks! Two have gone to new homes already. They also learn to use the water bottle this way.
