Just don't give up!

*Gradually* reduce the amount of sunflower seeds he's getting, while ADDING a good seed blend mix to his feeding bowl. Eventually get the sunflower seeds down to 1/4 of a handfull for the entire filled bowl.
A good seed blend can be bought at any pet shop or even Wal-Mart or Target, (but check dates on bags, please!) and should consist of at least 5 types of seeds *and* dried and diced fruits and/or veggies.

** you can also add a SMALL bag of pellets, appropriate for African Greys, to the Larger bag of seed blend you buy. Mix the two into a large tupperware/plastic container - and scoop out what you need from there. **

Pellets should not be more than 25-50% of the total diet.

Then supplement this routine with a few cooked or raw veggie treats and/or real fruit slices at least once a day.

Its going to take a while, so be patient. But don't give up!

Savvy*

When you're feeding fruits and veggies, you might want to make eating it a game. Always let him see you eating it. Make a big fuss, and praise yourself. Feed it to your spouse in front of him, and praise your spouse as well. Sooner or later, your bird will become curious enough that he'll want to try as well.

I hope this helps.

Merhaba Fatma, you might want to look at this post here: Behavior Modification Program ...
and read the whole thing through. It will give you the information you are looking for and how to get your bird comfortable with you and your "hand".
This will work for your bird as well.
Let us know the progress you are making and don't fear to ask questions even if they seem stupid.

Hope that helps a bit. :icon_smil

Feeding

Do you give your bird formula? I give mine fruits , veggies, and have just in the last couple of days, organic baby food for a snack. She loves it.

Most of the time, the problem lies in giving the bird too much food and the wrong type of food. Parrots actually eat less that you think. Start by giving your parrot the normal amount of seed that he always eats, but weigh it before you give it to him. Weigh it again after 24 hrs and see how much he ate. Then weigh out the amount he ate in that period and give him that amount of feed only consisting of a balance 3/4 of seed and 1/4 pellets. Gradually, increase the pellets and decrease the seed, while staying within that weighed out amount. It's ok for him to have seed, just not exclusively of anything else, he will become nutritionally starved on a seed only diet. Ideally you would offer the seed as a treat perhaps hidden in a foraging toy or during a training session. If he is ignoring the fresh foods, decrease the dry mix a bit and make it up in fresh and/or cooked products. Two other points, it's a good idea to weigh your parrot regularly during this time to make sure he is not losing weight, if he is increase the feed slightly. Also, if he is finishing everything well before the 24 hour period, you might want to increase the feed slightly as well.
Good luck, Linda at Crazy Feathers Aviary
