Tail Feathers

Hi,
disaster with tail feathers yesterday. I think my bird was upset with me because there was disruption in our daily routine. When I got home, she had pulled out a tail feather and chewed up more. Any other ideas why she would have done this?? this is the first time this has happened. Also , I made an appt. to get her lab work done today and with the basic lab work and DNA testing, its going to cost $186.00. sounds like alot to me. Does it sound right to you guys??
Thanks
Jer

It's best to not react to the bird pulling out feathers. The vet bill sounds right to me. Avian veterinary medicine is expensive.

Jer:

That actually sounds low to me. Whenever my birds start to pull feathers, I increase their showers and really, really soak them to the skin. I have NEVER seen a bird pluck a wet feather. Try to distract your bird from nuerotic behaviours before they become chronic. I have heard a lot of folks commenting about their birds messing with their feathers lately. It almost seems like they know something we don't.

The shower thing is a great idea. Most parrots come from rainforest areas, Congo greys are from one of the wettest places on earth (besides the ocean), in the Congo it rains for months at a time. Winters in North American homes are far too dry. It's best to shower the bird in the morning.

thanks for the replies

I was reading on landofvos that aloe juice and distilled water sprayed on them will work in case of dryness. So I am trying that. So far so good.
Thanks for the advice.
