Ssssoooooooo Excited!!!

We're (almost definitely) getting a Grey!!!! (part is a repost from the birdboard forum)

A friend of the family owns an exotic pet store. A breeder in the area was raided by the SPCA or police, and their breeder contact is friends with the owner of the store. She couldn't take in all of the babies herself , so our friend ended up with a Mexican Red Headed Amazon (or Green Cheek) and 3 Congo Greys. All between 3 and 4 weeks old.

She OBVIOUSLY wasn't planning on having 4 babies plopped into her lap, and like most people, has a weeklong vacation planned in the VERY near future.

So, we shall be babysitting and handfeeding said babies since we're the only bird people our friend actually knows. Which I'm UBER excited about. If all works out, we're going to get one of the CAGs once weaned for UBER cheap! (I'd continue handfeeding myself and get the CAG for free, but with the move, the wedding, and the honeymoon in the next month, that's not going to happen!)

Pictures will be posted as soon as I pick up the beebs!! Yay!!

Anne, what great news for you! I am sorry to hear that the birds have to go through so much upset but so glad that you're getting a Grey! I want to hear all about him or her!

Thanks everybody!! We're still not sure how everything will work out since we're not sure if the beebs are going to have any long-term ill-effects from the neglect they received so early in life, but we're hoping. I might have to twist the husband-to-be's arm a bit, but I think he'll come around. i let him have his yorkie even though we've been looking for a Grey, so he cannot possibly use having too many pets as an excuse without getting a "shoulda had a V8" smack to the head

That should be a lot of fun. You are smart not taking on the extra responsibility for the long haul knowing the upheaval you will be facing too but hopefully you can visit him/her often so that you are well bonded before the little one comes home to stay.

The family friends who have them right now live in the subdivision we're moving into, which is only about a mile away from where I'm staying now. So we'll be getting in LOTS of visits!
