Advice needed for a new grey owner!

Hey guys.

Hope everyone is well.

I have a few questions of concern about Zoe. She has been with us for a week now, but she constantly makes a sound that sounds like crying.... so pitiful!

Is she trying to tell me something and I'm just not getting it? Or do greys do this? HELP! I am starting to worry!

Thanks so much!
Vicki

Baby Greys do make a baby sound, and they also make it when they are hungry, so make sure she gets enough to eat.

She has access to pellets at all times in her cage but she hasn't touched them since she arrived. She will eat bean mixture and some steamed veggies in the morning followed by some fruit. Then in the evening she will get some veggie mash, nuts and seeds. Does that seems ok or do I need to change something... I have both the pellet the breeder was giving her as well as the Zupreem which my other birds are on. Another thing, she only does it when she sees someone.....

Hello Vicki..........I'm really new to the forum and by no means knowledgeable as many in this group, your post has made me profoundly sad. It's very tough when we love and don't understand. I'm curious how old is Zoe, is she in a new cage.....how has her environment changed, was she around pets or children and how attached was she to her previous owners? So many different things. Zoe needs your love, patience, understanding, maybe adjustment time and just in case a visit to a reputable avian veterinarian. Your family and Zoe will be in our thoughts and prayers.

Keep us all updated and tell us more about Zoe.

Steve

Zoe is now 17 weeks old and has been with us for a week. She is in a new cage. She was the first of the clutch to leave of 9. I am just worried that I am not doing something right. I have never had a fid wimper like this before. Her weight has come up about 30 grams over this past week. She just sounds so sad.......

Hi, I just brought Bing home. He was born 2/20 so he is right about Zoe's age. He makes a lot of funny noises. Sometimes they are deep and throaty, almost like a duck. I think he misses the big bird room he was in at the shop and all the birds in the bird room. They are such a smart bird that I think it might take them time to make the adjustment to this new life. The fact Zoe gained weight I would take as a good sign but like another post before mine, I am new to this and am in no way qualified to give an opinion. Bing is eating but I don't think he is eating like he did in the shop.

Hello, we just brought Chicken home last Thursday, she was hatched on 03/15/2008. She does that whining wimper sound too. We are still at one handfeeding a day, that is usually when she makes the sounds and in the morning while I am making their breakfast. I have also found over the last day or so that she also does this when she wants us to hold her but usually it is because she is hungry and wants more fruit and veggies or it is almost bedtime and time for the handfeeding. I am no expert either and am still new to this whole thing too, but I hope hearing that all of us CAG newbies are having the same or similar situation will help you relax a little! She's gaining weight and I bet she's eating, she just grabs a little when your not lookin, I was worried about Chicken so I hid in the dining room where she couldn't see me and low and behold 2 seconds after all was quite she was in there eating and watching for someone to come in, in the 2 seconds she was out of my sight she had moved away from the food dish and just sat there, lol.

the sound when a baby makes it, is begging for food. the bird will do it when it sees its caretaker. You are the parent, and you supply the food.
Keep weighing the baby. Its important to make sure he is not loosing weight.
some birds will have a set back when coming into a new home, and revert back to handfeeding.
