That's Shinda Shinda is more cuddly than Mojo. Mojo does come and sit on my hand or arm and will give birdie kisses but she's a busy bird all the time!

I don't know if it's because Shinda was brought in for hand-rearing as soon as he hatched and Mojo was in the nest box for a couple of weeks so Shinda had human contact immediately??

Lesley saw the dad attack Shinda (there are infra-red cameras in the aviaries) as soon as he hatched so ran out to bring him in. Mojo's damaged toes were only discovered when Lesley went out to ring her at two weeks old at which point she brought her in too just in case the dad did any further damage (remember he actually killed one of the chicks).

They are both absolutely delightful birds but have completely different characters.

No i dind't know the father killed one chick
shocking
:'(

ajax was cuddly at first now all he wants to be everywhere
sometimes 2 places at the same time
it's funny to watch him take a few steps then runs/hop back to where he started from and head a different direction

She needs a bib!

She's just eaten a piece of raw carrot (I say eaten I think she was just enjoying the sheer pleasure of shredding it!) and it looked quite tricky to hold with short toes and one nail as it was all slippery!

Note Shinda looking on in the background!

Hehe
nats resembled u quite a whole lot

i love messy beak pics
it's so cute

ahh they will get the hang on it..
Ajax use to be unable to grab small things liek 1" chopped green beans
but not he's a pro he can even hold his pellets in his foot

(his dominant one is his right one (the one with all his nails on them which has 3 nails)

yesterday i was chekcign his feet
and noticed his "thumb) the toe that points backwards on hsi foot
is kinda crooked

i should call the vet...

pIPPY: CAN U TAKE PICS OF BOTH SHINDA'S AND MOJO'S FEET AT DFFERENT ANGLES?
I WANNA SEE THE DIFFERENT WITH THEIR'S AND AJAX'S (I KNOW SHIND'S DIGITS WILL BE MUCH SHORTER THAN AJAX'S; I'M JUST CURIOUS
:d

Yes I think you're right, I think Mojo will very soon get the hang of it. She is right now sitting on my shoulder nibbling my ear lobe!

Shinda will, I think, always struggle to hold tricky objects as his left foot really is badly damaged. He can hold things fine in his right foot so long as he is standing on a flat surface.

Perching and holding is another thing altogether and not easy when you have stumps for toes on one of your feet and incomplete toes on the other! Bless him!

Mojo and Shinda have a wonderful cage, a playstand well stocked with food and toys and when they are out I put newspaper and toys on the table for them so naturally they want to spend lots of time..........

....on the gerbils cage!
