Mojo, CAG with tips of toes missing.

I've started my own thread as I kind of hijacked someone else's!

In a few weeks time I'll be bringing home a CAG who had the tips of his toes chewed off by his Dad. Consequently he only has one toe nail so I joined this forum to ask for advice.

You can read a more detailed account in my first few posts in THIS THREAD.

I've started this new thread as there will almost certainly be lots more questions to come!

I'm also a member of a UK based parrot forum and have been given lots of useful advice in THIS THREAD but I'd like as much info from as many experienced owners of birds with damaged toes as poss to help me give the best possible care to Mojo

Thank you for the welcome!

I've been a busy bee today and bought some bits for Mojo's cage! So far I've bought the cargo net, the wooden ledge and a rope perch.

I've gone for the smaller type plastic chain as the bigger one looked big enough for a CAG to get it's head through but not it's body so I'd be concerned about the hanging danger. Needed the chain to attach the fourth cargo net clip to the cage.

I've placed the rope perch in such a way as it'll be good for accessing both the wooden ledge and one of the food bowls (from the side at least).

I'll also put perches at each of the bowls plus another perch elsewhere in the cage. There's more room than you'd guess from looking at the photos!

I think I'll go for one of those wooden perches with the revolving toys on the end like THIS ONE, a plain wooden perch like THIS ONE, a long rope perch like THIS ONE across the cage at an angle for climbing and a sandy perch like THIS ONE.

Hopefully that will give Mojo plenty of choice for comfortable resting, eating and drinking. If I notice a particular type of perch isn't being used I'll take it out and replace it with a type Mojo does use.

Haven't decided where to put the tent yet so at the moment it's on the floor of the cage!

I don't know if CAGs like to explore the bottom of the cage but bearing in mind Mojo may not have sufficient grip to climb up and down the cage bars I'm also going to buy a ladder with concrete rungs like THIS ONE so he can get up and down easily.

If it turns out he can't grip the cage bars at all then I'll attach a few ladders around the cage so he can navigate easily. I know how parrots enjoy exploring every inch of every cage bars!

If you want to see bigger versions of the photos you can access all sizes by clicking on the individual photos on my Flickr HERE.

I may well change it around if I'm not happy with the layout once I've added the perches but I'm happy with it for now.

My next mission will be to think of safe landing strips for Mojo when he's out of the cage bearing in mind he'll have little grip! I'm absolutely against wing clipping and Mojo will only be shut in the cage for about five hours during the day then once he goes to bed at night, the rest of the time he'll be free to fly so I need ideas if anyone can help!

Mojo will be harness trained by his breeder as well as being trained to fly on calling his name. Lesley knows I've chosen the name Mojo so will use that name when she's spending time with him/her.
