Thanks everyone...We don't actually know if Simon is a boy. But he says his name so that's what we'll call him. His owner said she had her suspicions that he was a she because he would make this occasional low clucking sound like a hen. Don't know if that means anything or not. He's going to the vet this week and we'll get his wings and toenails trimmed. HIs nails are really long and it seems he has trouble hanging one because of it. They're black though and I can't see the quick so I think I'll let the vet do it. I'm just not sure that he'll be safe enough to stay flighted. Thanks for the warning Marcia. Simon's owner did warn me that he knew how to open the doors that hold his food bowls so she kept a carbiner clip on them to prevent his escape. I've been enjoying his vocalizations all day. And I discovered he loves to eat. He's game for whatever you offer. Its a nice change from Georgia who refuses many of the goodies we offer her. He ate apple, grapes, broccoli and a little bit of toast crust with relish. After his morning fly-about he wasn't real eager to come out of the cage. He did finally let me take him out and he expressed interest in sitting on the couch with my kids. My 8 yr daughter asked if she could hold him and so I let her. He sat on her for a bit and then all of a sudden reached out and bit her (hard pinch) on the finger of her other hand. Bless her heart, she didn't yelp or drop him or anything. She just sat there. I immediately went and got him while she fought back the tears. It really hurt! I told her how proud I was of her reaction and encouraged her that she did what all the experts say to do if a bird nips you and that's try not to react. I should have known better. We're too new and I should have limited handling to me and my husband. My daughter is very comfortable handling Georgia our conure but Simon is bigger. I'm not sure I would have been as non reactionary as she was. Lisa, I had to laugh at your birds attempts to get your other bird in trouble - very smart!
