New TAG

We brought Simon home yesterday. He is a 2 yr old TAG being rehomed because his owner (previously a stay at home mom) had to unexpectantly go back to work full time. She felt Simon wasn't getting the attention he had been accustomed to. He was raised in a busy family with kids and other pets, someone around all the time. Since that describes our household we felt it was a good match. The meeting went well. He happily went to both my husband and me. As our visit progressed he started showing off all his tricks. He knows quite a few words and many sounds. He struck us as a very happy well adjusted bird. His owners seemed to do alot right in raising him. He handled the 2 hr car ride home just fine. He was very quiet while we were driving but when we stopped for gas, he ran through his repetoire of sounds for us. At home he met everyone (we have 7 kids so that's a lot of people to meet) without seeming to stressed out. He came with a nice large playtop cage and we kept him in it for the rest of the day. This morning though we took him out. He is flighted and did take flight twice. We have really high ceilings (19 ft) so he make a couple of big circuits before landing. He seemed a bit clumsy on the landing so I'm not sure we'll keep him flighted. Plus we have a sliding glass door to the outside that he could get out of if someone were not careful to close it. Its nice to know he knows how though. He and Georgia (our gcc) have been calling to each other and he's already learned to imitate her conure screech. We're just all so excited to have him here. Just wanted to share. Being a new grey owner I'm sure I'll have lots of questions in the coming weeks.

It sounds like you got a great bird. Post some pictures if you get a chance...of both of them and keep us posted how he continues to settle in.

Congrats!! Its kinda funny how they imitate all the other birds around, I don't even know what alex's natural sound is..She's either a conure or a cockatoo or tiel..I decided to get gcc's because I really didn't want to add the noiser conures to the flock..Didn't work out too good because alex can get that conure call louder than a sun could.

Welcome!

Congrats on your new grey! We need pics asap!!! PLEASE!!!! Simon sounds wonderful! Yes, they pick up new sounds VERY easily! My CAG will squawk like my IRN and then she will say "Tiki, Quite!" thinking she can trick Mom into getting onto Tiki instead of her!
