((((hugs)))) that is sad news. I'm sorry. I don't look down on you, this is my worst fear, that for health reasons I won't be able to have birds anymore! It could happen to anyone. stay strong and take care k?

Lightbulb Re-homing

Very sad news, indeed. I feel so badly for the two of you, truly. I hope it all works out all right. Do as many have suggested and be sure that your baby is the cause of your illness.

If you decide that to permently re-home is your only option & can't find anyone suitable nearby, please consider my home... I believe it's only an 8 hour drive.

Im sorry youre going through all this .Its tough! I think you should rehome the bird as soon as you can,for your health and because it is necessary .Thinking aabout it is prolonging the agony. I know alot of people that can tolerate other birds cant have greys cause of the dust they make . Find him the best home you can and dont worry/stress about him.hell be fine . It will probley be harder for you in the long run. I dont mean to sound cold I can imagine how hard itis for you and hope you get good news soon and good health too!!!

Yes I feel terrible for you and your situation.. I would want one more test done before making any permanent decisions.. Have they allergy tested you so you know for sure it's bird dander causing the problem. I agree as a RN my self Dr's tend to look at the easiest explanation first. Have you seen an allergist? Or at least get a second opinion.. That would be your best place to start to make 100% sure it is your grey..

Good luck with what ever you have to do. I think we on the forum all feel your pain..

Chris

Yes, I have seen 2 different doctors and 3 different allergiest and everything has been ruled out. My doctors were actually not quick in suggesting it is the bird - they actually at first thought he had nothing to do with it.

I have lived with allergies my whole life and never had this much trouble - I have also always lived with birds in my home even as a child growing up and that was never an issue. I have been perfectly fine in managing my allergies and all of my symptoms came shortly after Cozi came home.

As for as not bringing home the Eclectus - what do you suppose I do with her then? She is bought and paid for, I have been awaiting her arrival for sometime, she is already booked on a flight and everything. I can tell you now that I know an Eclectus is not going to do anything as far as my allergies - before I moved in the apartment I have now, I was living with a roomate at her place for about a year and she had a male Eclectus and I never had any problem with him. I spent tons of time with him as she was always busy at work. Shortly after moving out I got myself a male Eclectus because I loved hers so much, he lived with me for 6 months before he had an accident and needed surgery, sadly however he never made it out of recovery. I also never had any sort of reaction from him.

On another note - I have been at my parents most of the day, they have one bird anyway I have been here hanging out with the dogs and swimming - I will still be here for another few hours as we are going to have some dinner together. Anyway, what I am trying to say is that I have been out of my apartment for several hours today and it is the first time I just took in a deep breath and was able to do that without coughing myself to death.

I don't know what else to say -

I'm sorry this is happening :( I'm sure you'll be fine with the ekkie, from your past. Don't feel guilty- no one could have known this would happen. Make sure you find a forever home from your little grey and are able to get updates. Take care when you get the ekkie!

Lucky Feathers

I know this is a long shot.Is it possible to keep Cozi in one of those Cage by Design or a similar cage? Wouldn't that cut back on the dander?Along with having a very good hepa air cleaner?I know what happened when something similar happened to me but there was nothing I could do.I hope this is something that is a possibility.

Marcia

New Update

Hi Guys!

I am now back from spending the day at my parents house - the reason for going to my parents today was to of course visit with my family, the animals, and to speak with the neighbors.

It's kinda a long story, so I am going to try and give you the short version. To start off my parents still live in the same house that I grew up in and our neighbors are the same as they have always been, we are all very close and they are actually a second family to me. The youngest daughter still in high school is like a younger sister to me.

Anyway, I went over to them to discuss the possibility of taking Cozi - they have had birds before and there last bird passed away a few years ago from old age - they have been wanting to get another bird for sometime they just don't know what they want.

Abby the daughter will be a senior next year and I spoke with them about her taking the bird - it would be a family bird obviously, but they would call it her. I said it could be a super early graduation present from me.

You guys might be thinking, but she is a senior and will be going off to college the following year - that is true and false - Abby will remain living at home and go to a community college instead of a university, so she will still be home.

Anyway, they like you all don't want me to end up giving up the bird if my health is not really from him - we are basically sure it is from his dust, but there is always a tiny chance it could be something else.

They have agreed to take him from me as a foster home - they will foster him for 2-4 weeks to ensure that my health is from him and if we come to the conclusion that it is really in fact him, they will give him a forever home.

It is actually the most perfect and ideal home for him because he will only be 15 minutes away from me living with my second family. I am very close with my parents, so I do visit them at least once a week and will just have to go right next door to see him. I will be able to go see him and play with him any time I want to.

They are all going to come over to my home Thursday to meet him and interact with him. I will then take him over to there house on Friday, he will go with his cage and toys and I will stay there for a while to help him adjust to his new surroundings.

More then likely he will be spending his life there and I will go over and see him and play with him every chance I get.

Woo~hoo!

PERFECT!

You've just got to love it when things fall into place like that! What a wonderful situation.
So sorry Cozi won't be living under your roof, but this is the next best thing... and absolutely nothing to feel guilty about... you've done your job as a mom (quite wonderfully, I might add) and that is to take care of your little one and make sure they are in the best situation for them. Great job!

KUDOS TO YOU!!
