My guys and I are moving

Hi everyone. I was hoping for some pointers. I am getting married in 2 weeks. Thankfully he matches our flock real well.

Now.......I am going to be moving. I would love to stay here forever...But I probably will have to move in with my husband. Anyway I am very concerned with the impact the move will have on my grey guys. I know the the rest of the flock will roll with it. Sparks has lived here for 6 years......and ZZ 3. I am very concerned with issues like moving them and they become upset and flip out. Or even pluck.

I am more nervous about this issue than even my wedding.

As soon as we get the keys to the house I will start taking them down there for day trips in travel cages. Get a playstand going. I have thought as hard as I can and there is just no way that I can replicate what they have here. Truth be told they have very posh digs here and it isn't going to be all sweet like that at the new place. I will work on it.

On a positive note......I am leaving a house that I have been battling mold (lathe and plaster) for 10 years. So we will be in warmer weather. And in a non mold house. Woot!

Any ideas for how I can further this move into a smooth transition would be groovin'.

TY

I will be facing the same dilemma with Bing in a year or two. I like your ideas of bringing them in their travel cages and making sure a playstand is there for them to get used to. I'm not really qualified to speak on this subject but from everything I've read, Grey's are highly intuitive and will read your mood and feelings before you know what they are yourself. Try not to project your apprehension. Take what you are doing, and whatever good advice you receive from people in the know, and proceed with confidence. I would think the bigger adjustment would be for them to go someplace without you. The fact that you will be there, the cages they are used to, and the other birds in your flock will do a lot to keep them calm.

That having been said, I'm not an expert on marriage either but I think it is probably a good idea to live with your husband...just a hunch.

I'm moving soon too, but my Grey is a lot younger than yours so I'm hoping it won't faze her much. I like your idea of taking them to visit the new place and getting them somewhat acclimated to it before hand. I read somewhere that it helps not to change the inside of their cage around before you move. As in, keep the same toys and whatnot in the same places in their cage before the move and after so at least the inside of their cage is familiar even if everything else is strange. Good luck!

Haha, I like that we're all able to relate. . . I'm getting married next Friday, and we're closing on a house tomorrow!!! Scarlett has always been okay with moving, though. She moved with me to college and then back home after the storm, and does wonderful on car rides. I just give her lots of Mama time.

That's not much help, but it's all Scarlett really needs.

whats with all the brides?
Congrats to the both of you, Amie and Marci! I wish you both a lifetime of love happiness and health!I need pictures when you have them to share.

As far as the move, I can say I have moved 4 times in the past 10 years, and all 4 times have included greys.
Last two times, I moved with 4 and then 3 greys. I have to find the pics, all times, too far in distance to have them see it prior. Honestly, I had more problems with Stirling who plucked after being in his smaller travel cage. I Know he knew somthing was up. He had been moved a few times prior to me getting him and he was also cagebound in a small cage for many many years. So that might have played a bit on him too.
Sydney and Emma could have cared less.
the only thing I did, was to make sure i explained everything to them and once we were in the new place, I walked them around one by one to show them there was nothing scarey in the new place.

Here is the 3rd move, and everyone in travel cages ready to go...**LOL** yes, I did have all matching travel cages.

second one is all the greys loaded into my mustang for travel.

I cant find the last move, but it was very similar.

Wow thanks everyone. It is funny how we are all moving!! I never envisioned myself leaving this house. I am glad that moving hasn't stirred anything up for any of you.

Now maybe I can go to my wedding and not be worried about stressed birdies! And it is true they probably can sense something isn't quite right at the moment.

I am so glad to hear of your experiences being smooth Lisa! Man that is quite a shot with the crew in the car! lol Also thank you for the well wishes! :)

I am lucky and am only moving 32 miles inland. I will make sure and tell them what we are doing step by step. I know that the lady who lived in this house before us had some cockatiels and budgies. And the place was a mess. So I am going to scrub it down like a mad dawg. And tear out all the carpeting. Then I will bring them.

Maybe I am the real one here with nerves. Here I go trying to blame Sparks and ZZ.

Happy walk down the isle Amie
