GH,

Thanks for the additional info. I am working on gracie allowing me to scratch her under the wings. I used to stay away from there and the front because A) she doesn't like it too much and she communicates that through "beak action" and B) her other thing is to believe I am asking her to "step up". BUT, i am working on those activities so that she does neither in prep for Vets.

She does like towels, mostly to chew on. We have been leaving one hanging on one of her perches outside the cage to get her acclimated to it. I started playing peek-a-boo by holding it between her and I. I will then move on from there...I anticipate to get better towel adapation ideas from a book that was mentioned previously in the thread.

It must be nice to have so many raptors around. We get a lot of red-tails around here. There was a gyro-falcon sighting in southern DE, very exciting for the state. My son tries to identify the soaring birds as we pass in the car. I can never tell if he is right or not, not that it matters that much. Gonna have to get some field binoculars!

Thanks for the input and for sharing!

Marco

Man, if I had known a gyrfalcon was hanging around, I would have walked down there in just my underwear! Okay, maybe not that extreme, but it would be great to see my first gyrfalcon.

Over the past few years my family has seen 6 different raptors from our property: red-tailed hawk, sharp-shinned hawk, Cooper's hawk, red-shouldered hawk, northern goshawk, and a bald eagle. And all of them but the bald eagle have been in our yard. We only have the Cooper's and red-tails as regular winter regulars, with the sharpie stopping by once or twice. Not too bad for a small wooded yard in Pennsauken. So if you want to see more hawks around your house, throw seed out. Seed brings birds like sparrows and doves. And they bring the hawks!

And part of the fun of seeing birds is being able to identify them! There's nothing better than getting home and rattling off a list of everything you saw to everyone you talk to. :icon_smil But I am sympathetic to those who must drive instead of staring at the sky. And who knows? A few years from now your son might be teaching you all the nuances of identifying birds in flight.

Marco...here is the cage I purchased, and would be perfect for your grey while boarding. The price went up $5.oo since I ordered, but they are still way worth it. It knocks down for storage. The same cage in a pet store is going to run you about a hundred. I prefer teh square top cage as to the play top one for boarding, but If you get this one you can just as easily keep it shut with a link or toy. This is what I did while moving....
