Help!! Asap!!!

Hi,
My grey is acting really wierd today. She acted perfectly normal this morning, ate as usual. Around 10, she began to act like she has a chill, I made sure that she is warm. and its now 3:50 pm and she won't eat anything and appears to be sleepy. All she wants to do is sit on my shoulder. I finally got her into her cage so I could type this. I have tried to feed her all of her favorite things this afternoon and its not working. I don't know if she is drinking because I had to leave for a couple of hours. When she tries to eat, I can tell she wants too, she acts as if her mouth hurts. She opens her beak slightly, will put her tongue on the food but then won't eat. I have gone over in my little head how hot I got her food this morning and it was the normal temperature. Could she possible have a paper cut?? I give her envelopes to tear up. I called the vet and they said to bring her but she would have to spend the night. She is so use to our normal routine that I think that will make it worse. She will be too stressed out. There have been NO changes in anything that I do with her. WHAT DO I DO????
thanks,

Awww. Jer~ First & foremost, sounds like you thought of all the obvious basics...NOW simply see if there are any other lil discrepencies the lil one is relaying for you to be aware of...TRY to be 'OPTIMISTIC" first & foremost...then closely monitor any dramatic or notable changes... TRY not to get totally frightened just yet...it could be one of the simplest things... a draft?...a new food item maybe? THINK calmly...& you have a WORLD of support out here round _the _ clock! I do hope it is NOTHING serious though...but TRY to observe & gather info to come towards a possible source or conclusion...just do so before the weekend creeps up on ya...so at least you CAN get to the vet if ya need to! Nothing is worse then having it be the weekend or holiday then our kids get sick....including our critters! Hang in there~ you are NOT alone out here...

How do the poops look? Is the bird perching ok? Is is fluffed up? I would agree with the vet? I would keep him warm. Try putting 2 liter bottles with hot water in them in the bottom of the carrier if you have to transport and partially cover to keep the heat in. If he has trouble perching and is fluffed up on the bottom of the cage call the vet immediately. Have you changed anything in his cage or near his cage?

I think that Barb meant to put a couple of bottles of warm water in a PET CARRIER and insert your bird. The effects of water bottles in a cage wouldn't make much of a difference.

How old is this bird? Is this a newly weaned baby? If so, go to the vet now. Don't play around with baby birds. It could have a yeast infection or something along those lines that is very treatable in the early stages.

Poop looks normal, she is perching ok. She is puffed but not alot, almost like she has a chill. I am keeping her warm, and I did put her blanky over half the cage. My husband just came home and he started making noises for him, so that was encouraging. I will continue to monitor her every move throughout the night. This is scary., she has never acted this way before. Because I don't know that she is drinking, I am waiting for some organice baby juice to arrive. She normal loves it, so hopefully she will take some. Does that sound ok? Thanks for the response.
Jer

Outlaw,
She is only 6 months and still eats formula about every other day. What does newly weaned have to do with a yeast infection? As I said before, I am new at this. I have called the vet already and tried to get her in. They wanted me to leave her overnight due to his busy schedule. I am afraid that would stress her even more. And who is to say that he would REALLY check her out tonight. I am going to keep a close eye on her and if she seems to get worse tonight, I will take her to emergency. Otherwise , she will go in the morning. I do know that I can't wait to long. I also called my breeder and asked her for some advice too.
Thanks,
Jer

Well it seems you are doing all you can do for now. I would keep a close eye on him for the night. I hope all is well for him soon.

Jer:

I asked the age because yeast infections in unweaned babies can kill a baby bird. Older birds can go a bit longer before big problems develop. The yeast can grow so rapidly, it keeps the baby from being able to eat and ultimately involves the digestive tract.

Jer:

I think you should probably read this article and you might want to print it out and save it for a future reference.
