Smile Stingy

I've always wondered why when Goose is preening and a feather might come out he is stingy, I usually just want to look at it and he wont let me have it he wants to chew on it and when there is almost nothing left and he drops it I can have it, he does this with most feathers except the blood feathers. I know it's his feather but just wondering if anyone elses grey is stingy like that LOL
