Harnesses

My Mom wants to start taking walks with Izzy, and I want to get one for Lilly and have NO idea what size and type is best for CAGs. Izzy's a moose, but Lilly seems very petite (she's only 2 months old as yet) and most likely won't be as big as Izzy, I'm thinking. I've tried the Feather Tether one on one of our Conures and it's tough to get on him - not because he's fighting it, but it's just unwieldy?

I kinda like the flight suits, they look like they'd be most comfy for the bird, but haven't used one. So, any suggestions would be great!

From what I have seen here... the Aviator is the way to go. But I think I may try the flight suit as it has the built in diaper and comes in a nice fleece model for cooler weather (hey... conures come from near the equator! LOL).

As both my guys actually LOVE being cupped firmly in a hand and WANT to be toweled (you would never guess that they are yet to have nails and wings done this way! LOL)... I think they might like the flight suits better anyway.

If you get a flightsuit from the website for them, instead of third party, it has a spot to put the age of the bird... since it makes a difference with some species. I called them about that very topic a few weeks ago and they were delightfully nice on the phone! They even have a cheaper "training" suit that might be good for Lilly until she gets her "womanly" curves. Tehehehe

I also admit that I like the different colors.

I am going to get the Aviator as well. I have several feather teathers, and I get confused each time I attempt to put them on.....remember, I am blonde

I got the aviator for both my CAG and Quaker. Other than the fact that the Quaker fights it, it is really easy to put on. The CAG let me put it on her the day we got it, but I am really consistent in introducing as many new things as possible and she is only 4.5 months old. I personally do not like the flight suit as an outdoor leash, it is only velcro that holds it on. Basically the leash has a double sided velcro piece that goes in between the closure for the suit itself, and for a larger parrot, I don't think that would be consistently safe, velcro tends to soften up sometimes in a short period of time and can come undone rather quickly. I did much research on BB and through google and found that the Aviator is very popular with grey owners as it is not as invasive as many of the other harnesses. There is only one slide on it where as the others have several slides to press into the parrots body. The leash is elastic so if your parrot does take flight or jump off they don't come to an abrupt jolt. I am no expert, just speaking off of research, personal experience and opinion.

A V I A T O R
is the way to go

lols
it is very easy to put on
awhile ago i got the feather teather and it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay more difficult to put on plus it's heavier with the buckels

go with the aviator

and make sure u watch the dvd in a room where your birds are not present

seriously it makes a difference if they are there or not while watchign the dvd

for different birds it will take different time frames
i know some people who have been at it for over a year
and some ppl only did it in a matter of days

took ajax about a week for him to allow us to put it in
but we havn't put it on in awhile so he probably would freak out again
it's been rainign here for over a week (everyday)

but here's a pic when he first let us put it on

Aww! Ajax has that "Wt.....!" look. I love it. Izzy will be the pill. He -might- let my Mom put it on him, but not me. I'm only good for food and transportation from cage to HIS person lol. Lilly though, she's still mallable!

Yeah, I hate the feather tether. Too difficult to get on, and once on, impossible to get off if the bird is struggling. I had to cut Xaf out of one. Thanks for all the advice!

also I read aviator guarantees your bird to not be able to escape and I read some stories about the diaper ones having issues with birdies getting loose. My husband wanted the diaper one till he read that and now said he can not risk his little birdie getting hurt. The diaper part is nice but not worth the risk imo.

If I can offer some suggestions... I bought Zoe's harness straight from the parrot university..... it didn't fit right and I was having trouble with her in it. They were so helpful and accommodating in finding the answer and now it works great! I can't say enough positive things about purchasing from them directly.....

Just a little tid bit......:)
