Broken blood feather under the skin?

CoCo who is still removing her new feather growth as it grows in looks like she must have pulled a feather that was filled with blood. This feather was the only one that I have ever seen look like this. The entire new feather was totally red (filled with blood). All her other new feathers that I observe trying to come in are white at the tips and look like black in color up to that point (i guess the feather under the "sheath"). I had been watching this red one for a few days. Just the other day I noticed the redness under the skin. She must have pulled this one and now there is about a centimeter round patch just under her skin that you can tell is filled with blood (just like a blood blister). Should I have the vet try look at this and possibly remove the blood or will it just heal on it's own. Will it permanently scar if not removed?

i know it might be hard, but can you take a pic without upsetting her?
when they pull bloodfeathers, there is often a red, roundish looking hole left in the skin. kinda looking like part of the sheath is still in there, but thats just how they come out. As long as it came out ok, there will be no problem and will close up for another to grow in. But over the net, its hard to tell.....when in doubt, a good relationship with your vet is priceless!

When feather grows in, it it fulled with blood. when it reaches where it needs to go, then the end starts to turn white, showing the feather formation. that is when they start to preen them. If you caught it as it was growing in, it wont have the white tip for a few more days, when the blood receeds from the end of it. Does that make sense? I'm so tired I cant even remember...............who am i?

I dont think Goose has had one near the skin just under his wings but I know when they come out the feather tip is white, His feathers dont come out unless he flies somewhere but I watch him to make sure that place doesn't bother him after it come out, but if one is loose and it hurts him he has so much relief when it comes out

I tried to take some pictures but they keep coming out blurry. It actually seems a little better than it was yesterday and I can see another feather (dark blue) under the skin in the same area. It probably won't last too long though.

I have another vet appointment on Friday with someone new. This lady is supposed to be very good and has many clients with Grey's (as well as herself).
Coco seems to be less itchy now (but is still pulling new growth). I have:

1) Converted her from a seed diet to Harrison's
2) Bought Pluck no More" and am using it
3) Moved our yellow winged amazon into a spare bedroom away from Coco, since we have pinpointed the plucking came right around the same time as we got Lucky (the Amazon)
4) Moved Coco's cage away from the window (which was also right on top of a vent
5) Turned on the air purifier
6) Bought a humidifier (humidity around 65 - 70%); it was at 60% so i think it was fine before I bought the unit.

Like I say, she is hardly scratching at all now, but still pulling new growth. (i hope it hasn't become a habit)

I wonder how long it takes if the issue was nutrition to show any improvement?

Hi Lisa, just to let you know, this feather was about an inch long and totally bright red from the tip of it right down under her skin. I have never seen one like it. It was like it had no pigment at all...

ahhhhhh ha...wonder if they she has a red feather out of place? (red factor)

Plucking new growth can become a habit. Sadly I have one as well, and cant figure it out to give any advice. Its upseting to watch and not know what to do. you seem to be doing everything right. just make sure to clean the humidifier so it doesnt grown mold and shoot spores in the air.

You can put a drop of GSE in the humidifier to kill any bacteria or fungus.
