Which grey should we get???
My husband and I have decided that we want to start looking into getting an African Grey, although it likely will be months to a year before we do so.
We have a 3 year old daughter, and will likely be having a baby within about a year and a half added to the family. Becca is excellent with all our animals, and I am a stay at home mom and have the time to spend on the animals that they need and more. :) What are the differences between the two species of Greys? What are the intelligence issues? the caging differences? the toy differences? attitude differences? Which will work better with a family like ours, where we would have multiple birds as well as other animals (all caged, though, other than maybe a cat eventually - all will be protected from one another though!!!). We have a jendaya conure, BTW, and will likely also own one macaw within the next few years as well (unsure which species, though). I know my husband really fell in love with a TAG recently, but she was sold a few days later... So I'm not really sure if he wants a CAG or TAG since he's mentioned liking the CAGs quite often in the past. :) Thank you for your advice in this! :) |

I have read that Timnehs tend to be a calmer bird, and less neurotic, with the same great talking abilities of the Congo. However, I am not talking from experience, and I know there are those on this board with first hand experience. Hopefully, they will come onboard, and give you some help!

I love my CAG so I am definitly biased on this topic. Jordy is a clown and is one of my favorite beings in the world. Saying that, I would also being saying that if I had gotten a TAG instead. To me parrots are the most majestic creatures an the planet. They all have so much personality and express themselves so well it's creepy.
Jordy does have some problems but they are not speciese related. His moods are what you would expect from a child that spends his days exploring and observing the world around him. He likes to try new things but is a little weary of new items placed in the aviary. That is no different from most of my fids though. He can be loud and does like to yell when he wants to. He mimics very well and I have had to curb some of my more lax linguist habbits because of it. He doesn't bite or act agressive toward me. He does like to spar at times and I play with him in that manner. He is also very affectionate. Loves to cuddle before bed and will ask for "scratc scratch" with his head tilted down. He playes hard with some of his toys and it's alittle unnerving to hear him go at it with some of the hanging ones. In short, I love him and could never say different about him. Either CAG or TAG should make you very happy.
