Tina... I feel for you.

But I hate to say that in the eyes of the law... they probably would not have prosecuted if you had called them on-the-spot when you were at his house. Sad truth is, the law does not care that rusty cages are not good for parrots... or that they are only fed once a week. If the animal is provided with shelter from the elements, vetted appropriately (and for birds that is not mandatory unless illness or disease is present), and not underweight and food is available... their hands are tied.

I could tell you stories that would make you cringe on what I saw as a vet tech. And then you would scream when I tell you how little could be done about it.

I am SO glad you have them now.

<says in a sing-song voice> Tina is gonna have grey babies... Tina is gonna have grey babies...

I do so wish I lived closer to you in case I ever wanted another bappy some day!

Well, we had 3 pair total, plus the timneh hen who's mate died. The timneh hen passed away last night, and my vet has another pair with her that looks like they're not going to make it - severe dehydration. The other 6 birds are doing decently. All but one hen ...who decided to lay an egg last night... got blood tests, swabs and such and forth done today. I felt lucky that I only got bit 493 times ...by the same bird, I think. One of them had to have a toe amputated because it was necrotic and barely hanging onto the foot ...so he's under antibiotics but isn't with my vet. He gets comfy vetwrapped perches for now, which I have to change out daily. Oh boy. He doesn't seem to mind it though, and nothing has stopped any of them from eating everything given to them.

I went out an hour ago to feed them dinner and the misting system was going on. I have it set up so only the back half of the cages gets the misting, that way they can escape it. All were fanning wings under the mist and rolling their heads, making happy Grey sounds. Soon as I tossed food into their feed cups, they forgot that they hate humans and rushed the feeding stations.

I'm going to have to invest in a bio-hazard suit.. clothes changing and showers between nursery and everything and pets and quarantine and now quarantine room to quarantine outside, to pets to.... UGHHHHH!! Least I'm squeaky clean?!

I'll give updates and post pics when I can. Most of my breeders fear the evil Camera, so I'm not sure what these guys will do as yet.

...I might indeed have Grey babies! But, that's not my main interest right now, I'll sweet-talk them into babies once they're fat and healthy and happy. ...Unless that silly hen who laid an egg has laid a fertile one, but I'll incubate that and pop a fakie under her. Honestly, after I got Lilly, I said "I don't need anymore Greys". Heh.
