omg not as easy as i thought! :(

Saders home,
i left him soley in the cage for 32hrs, and would go to the cage to talk to him often, he didnt want to be bothered, growling most of the time, he did calm down, after a while i was able to go to the cage and he was fine!

now today, first i did his food all fresh, he moved over to each bowl with a growl, so i decide to open the cage, he did great came out on his own sat at the play top for hours, but wen i would approach him he would move over like to get further away from me, he climbed the ladder one time to be further away

i need to get him back in the cage, since he growls me and when i hand him a carrot or apple slice he bites and drops (he doesnt bite anything off) so to me its a bite if it was my finger, so i perched him on a perch from atop the play area, well of course he flew (glided, his wings are clipped) off, on the floor, he perched again the whole time growling and screetching with an evil stare............................. does this mean he hates me, or is he still scared and unsure?
im so saddened, should i perch him on my finger and take the bite? (i dont want him to think that is ok)
does it get better? will he warm up to me, i know its early but is it to early to hate me......?????
thanks for all your help!!!! appreciated and needed...........
tammy

First off it is going to take month's for you to gain his full trust. You really shout spot train him. Find something he loves and will do anything for, then use that for your training (and only for training). It will take a few times and then he will catch on. You need to move slowly and at his pace. You force him and he will regress in trust.

Is he back in the cage yet?

He dosen't hate you. You know that logically. But I understand the feelings. Don't let your feelings taint the bonding/trusting process. Birds will be birds and they will behave as birds. Try not to be so hard on yourself and just use trusted training techniques as well as a healthy dose of intuition.

lol...I'm here...

Tammy, I will PM you my phone number. This way I can get a bit more backround, and then try to help you out. Then you can report back to the board and let them know what you tried and changes you might have implemented.

It truly gets better

When I first got my Amazon, he was never picked up by his previous owners. We brought him home and just like you talked to him and he hid in the corner banging his beak on the corner. We opened the cage let him roam and like you when it was time to go back in he would do something like a growl and try to rip our fingers off. We used the perch method with him and practiced step up with the perch. After he was used to that, we used a glove (after many scars to fingers) and he was got used to that. Long story short, it took us about six months of reassurance, love and patience and NOW he begs to be held. He takes showers with me and says love Ma, Go Cook, I'm hungry and much more.

There is hope! you will be fine.

Good Luck!!
