Emani hates water

Emani does NOT like water at all. We haven't tried putting him in the shower yet. We've just spritzed him with water and he can't get away fast enough!!!!! Does anyone else have this problem with their Grey? Any suggestions? Our Alexandrine LOVES water. He gives himself a bath in his water bowl and lets us spray him all over. He even lifts his wings up for us to get under them

Marti isn't a big fan of water either. He will dunk his head and feet in his water dish very rarely but he has a fit even if I try to spray him. I usually put him in the sink and spray him with the sprayer or in the bathtub with the door closed so he will get a bath. He doesn't like it but he doesn't hold a grudge afterwards either LOL.

make it fun with lots of whoooo hooo sounds etc by you. Follow up witha treat. You kneve know maybe getting in the shower with you might be different. My macaw loves the shower so much he was in there last night for a good 30 minutes!!!! My U2 would rather die filthy! LOL

Try taking him in the shower with yo and see if he is better? Or if you have a shower perch put that it in there and you go in also and make having a shower look like sooo much fun!!!!

Mojo and Shinda don't like being sprayed one little bit!

I spray them every morning without fail and they are just about getting used to it but they still grumble and I often have to spray them in the air because they sometimes fly away from me!

All they do is go round in a circle and land on top of the playtop cage again so after doing this a few times they realise I'm going to spray them whether they fly or stay put so they stay put!

I don't spray them directly in the face, I hold the bottle just above them. Also, I use water from the kettle plus a little cold water. By the time the water hits the birds it's the right temperature, not too hot, not too cold.

I've noticed one thing they love to do, and they discovered this by chance, is to hold their beaks open and let me gently squirt water into their mouths!

I don't stop spraying them until they're soaking wet so it's as good as them being immersed in water.

Ziggy dunks mostly, but he's gotten to like taking showers. We have a shower head that has a handle (so, like two shower heads, but one is movable). He likes the detachable shower head a lot more than the main one. This last week he let us get him completely wet with little fight. We try to make it a game, and we think it's working. We bring the parakeets in at the same time, and it just becomes a party in the bathroom.

Hey guys... ummm... they are AFRICAN Greys. Like in... Africa. As in... rather dry! LOL

I had an Arabian horse when I was a teen that was scared to DEATH of mudpuddles. Everyone at my barn picked on him during trail rides and all. My logical thinking was... they come from the desert, what do you expect! LOL

Africa's rainy season is from May-October. That it also being heavy rainfall and mostly all the time. So I would think they would over centuries be acclimated to rain! They also live in the dense forests.

if you are using a spray bottle
try squeezing the trigger of the bottle slowly

if u press it too fast it makes a sort of hissing sound

birds are a prey animal
so the hissing sound may soundl iek a snake or something that spookes them

also it does help if the water s warm too (woohoo dollar stores)
:D

that's what a lady told me at a bird specialy store
she has raised many greys, she currently has one that was removed form a craack house operation and she currently has many many health and behavoural and mental issues

also a smaller spray bottle may help
;)
