How Loud

Hey, I want to add another baby to my flock and have been researching different ones and am curious about Timneh Greys.
Basically what I want to know is how loud they can be.
I have a Sun and a Tilel and have had an Orange Winged Amazon.....so i'm no stranger to noise lol......
Thanks in advance.

Well my TAG is still young but as far as loud I would say nope. LOL Mind you he does have is moments but its not a squawk noise its more of this super high pitch whistle thing and I have heard other Greys make the same noise, at 6 in the morning it can get annoying. I know that he has the potential to get loud but it seems that he chooses not to be.

Yes that's the noise my young (five months) CAGs are making right now at 7.30am, they're calling to each other with that high-pitched squeal! One is on top of the fridge the other on top of the kitchen door! My neighbours must hate me for being an early-riser!

From what I've read TAGs make all the same noises as CAGs.

Well I have both a CAG and TAG and both of them can be loud at times. Mostly in the morning and for about 1/2 hr before bed time. And of course when it's time to kill that favorite toy as they play.

I really don't see much a difference in either one being louder then the other. But by far they are no where as loud as a Sun can be..
Good luck in whatever you decide..
Chris

Anything I have read would say that the TAG would be a quieter bird than a sun conure or an amazon. In fact I just read a website from one breeder that said Greys were generally good for apartment dwellers because of their quieter nature (relatively speaking).

Having said that, if I had Bing in an apartment we would have been evicted. He is very loud and rarely quiet (although a lot of the time it is mumbling as he figures out new sounds). On a different post I spoke of how well he mimics a macaw, only louder. I think he could rival any sun conure or amazon and then some. I love him but I wouldn't say he is quiet. He wasn't even that quiet as a baby (he's about eight months old now) so I kind of new I was bringing home a vocal bird. The good side is he is a talker. I wouldn't trade him for the world but he's not soft spoken.

Get the TAG. These greys are great!

My parent's TAG and my CAG both have the potential to be really loud (yeah, I have experienced the high pitched noise from both...while on my shoulder). In a small apartment, it can annoy people (like my hubby) because there isn't a place "to run from the noise". Having played with a Sun Conure, I wouldn't say that AGs are any louder than Conures. Good luck with your decision!

Luckily, our apt is relatively noise resistant. I can't hear anything going on in the house if I'm in the bedroom with the door closed. So thats where Justin runs off to when the birds are just being birds. lol. I do sometimes hear the people above us and can sometimes hear my conure outside but have never had any compaints. I wish there was a breeder around here that I could visit with before hand but the closest one is in NC about 7 hrs away. I think i'll go with the TAG though as of now- I still have a few months to decide because she wont have anymore till next spring/summer

Remember... he will mimic what you already have (sun conure). Whether louder or softer than what he actually hears is the question! LOL

And there is nothing a sun likes more than screaming with another sun... so if one starts... it may be a never ending cycle. LOL
