My Mr. was like that but the other two he was with were not at all. That is why we liked him so much he was outgoing and curious which is what I think a ideal baby grey should be. The other two were better with the people that they knew but hissed and growled at strangers. Mr is now 7 months old and is still pretty outgoing and will easily go to new people. We had to board him and they were sad to see him go because they said he was so sweet and just wanted loving he would put his head out for scritches. O and we paid close to that for Mr. I think it was 1400 after tax. Some people say that TAGs are more outgoing though and I think they do not necessarily size you up as much as a CAG does.

they can be outgoing, if they like you. not all are nervous and scared. Its all in how they are raised and you will hear that its also linked to genetics.
high strung birds will throw off high strung babies.

Bing was kind of like that but I've met others who were not or who were only with certain people. I will say, on the whole, most babies can be cuddly if they are used to being handled but I think you shouldn't discount the fact that this guy liked you.

I've read the genetics opinion, but I wonder if they've done truly unbiased tests on that. I know that the longer the chick remains in with the parents, the more they're like the parents. I own Lilly's parents and they're extremely high strung, but Lilly is as calm as a gunfighter in a western! lol But, Lilly was hatched in an incubator, not pulled as an eye-open chick.
As defensive Grey hens can be with their nestboxes, I imagine it could be a very scary thing for a young chick to be taken from the box. Another reason to pull them before the eyes open! |
