visually sexing african greys

i found a sure fire way of visually sexing african greys that is 99% effective. on a male grey, the underside of the red tail feathers are solid red, on a female, the underside of the red tail feathers are tipped in silver. also, a male's body feathers under the wing are dark in color, females have light colored feathers under their wings.

What age do the Greys have to be in order for that to apply, according to you?

i got the comparison photos from the exotic pet vet site. it didn't give ages...i would assume once they're fully feathered. my grey was 2 years old when i discovered she was a female.

My Avi vets says that you have to wait until their adult molt to be able to tell for sure.

I just checked my Congo and her feathers are solid red on the underside. She is a DNA'd female and fits the profile in regard to pelvis dimensions.

i dunno...the exotic pet vet site has photos...says the tail feather and body feather method is 99% sure. maybe your grey is the 1% that doesnt follow the rule?

Perhaps. This grey will be 4 at the end of the year.
